I used to own a 2004 Yamaha Vmax that I put a UFO header/exhaust and stage 7 jet kit on. It dyno'd 117 rwhp and 79 rwtq. I sold it after I bought my 2009 STAR Vmax. It has the cat removed and replaced with an H-pipe. The O2 sensors have been disconnected and the tune is done via a power commander. It also has K&N air filters installed. The 1.7 Litre V-4 motor dyno'd 181 rwhp and 115 rwtq through the shaft drive. I hit a top speed of 160 mph on GPS and the speedo was reading 173 mph. I have the optional 8 inch wide rear wheel with the 240 mm Pirelli Diablo tire in the rear. I run the angel tire in the front 😇

The official world record for top speed on any generation VMax (including chain drive conversion) is 158 mph Set by the late John Cornell on a 2009 STAR VMax. I hit 160 mph in 5th gear at 9,500 rpm in one mile on a flat 2 lane road at 3,000' DA. I have the gearing to go 168 mph in 5th at 10,000 rpm's at the TEXAS mile.... i just need a 50 shot of nitrous to pull it 🏁

That is badass. I know Vmax’s aren’t about top speed, but I’m surprised to hear that top speed for them isn’t higher. I would think power to weight would allow for a much higher top speed.

The GEN 2 VMAX weighs 685 lbs ready to race. That is more than 100 lbs heavier than the GEN 1 Vmax. I hit a top speed of 140 mph on GPS on my old Vmax at 9,000 Rpm's. Speedo was reading 145 mph. The Vmax is a muscle bike designed for 1/4 mile drag racing. It does not wheelie but rather smokes the rear tire. Rolling burnouts only require a twist of the throttle...

Yes, I understand that, and you may have seen by now my photos of me drag racing my V65 (ran 11’s with a stock 1983 ). What et’s do you get on yours? First gen and 2nd gen.

Weighing 245 lbs with gear on i ran a 10.98 @ 126 mph at my local dragstrip (4,500 DA).

What top speed have you hit on your Vmax...

That’s a good time- nice! I wasn’t trying to take away from your accomplishment; just said I was surprised at the numbers. And I said right away that I was already well-aware of the design mission of the Vmax, as with all of the old muscle bikes.

I rode and raced my V65 for a few years. Never had the pleasure of owning a Vmax, but always wanted one. Driven several, though. After my V65 accident, my wife made me a deal that she would never bother me about racing vehicles as long as I stayed away from 2-wheeled machines, and both of us have kept our word. She probably wasn’t anticipating my 8-second Hemi Dart, which is WAY scarier than any of the Vmax’s I tried out.

Nothing looks meaner to me than a Vmax. I thought they NAILED IT with the second generation, incorporating enough modern design with plenty of styling cues from the old one.

I just found some more mods I can do. If I do these two mods and get the akropovic slip on mufflers I think I can get this to 200 rwhp with a tune for race gas. As it stands right now I can't get anymore power to the ground in 1st gear. So I like the nitrous better because I can just spray 3rd, 4th and 5th gear and go faster. Gonna take the mirrors off and get a one piece leather racing suit. Much more aerodynamic than the OG Ghostrider leather jacket that I was using. The wind blasted inside of it approaching top speed and it started to parachute. Yikes!!!
