Hmmm. In a 4 car convoy with Rowan Atkinson. Rowan himself had a bad crash in his F1 a few years ago and i think the tab to fix it was a million dollars. At least he can give his fellow caravaner some advice about repairs. Final note. Nice that they had a car cover for the vehicle when they winched it onto the trailer.

Quite simply that there are "stories" cars that have been advertised/sold as "non story" cars...cars that have been modded and returned to stock...cars that have had body work 'off the books', etc.
If memory serves, a couple of such cars have been 'exposed' as such on this forum.
They're out there.
(Bony [God rest him] called me in in a semi-panic mode one day somehow convinced I was considering the purchase of such a car...one that he knew wasn't "as represented". He wanted to make darned sure I didn't end up with it.)

I think you missed Bonehead's point that it's going to be a virtual impossibility to specifically fix any McLaren F1 in particular under the radar, let alone one damaged in a very, very public way, because they are watched like hawks. There's a dude that posts on many sites on the net as Peloton25 that has seemingly minute by minute documentation of where all 106 F1s are. Crunching one, getting it to Woking, and getting it out without anyone finding out would be a magic trick.

Was just about to reply and DBK did it for me. Yes, that's what I meant. Hard to do anything to any F1, much less restore from what looks like a total loss, without someone/some people knowing about it. So, I didn't miss your point. And yes, Erik Reynolds (aka Peloton25) knows the whereabouts of every F1 on the planet, including the racecars.

EP, when you say “stories cars are advertised as “non story,” I would make a distinction between crashed cars and cars returned to stock. It’s very common for a dealer like myself, BJ Motors, Russ Milne Ford, or Marv Rose to remove bolt-on modifications like a catback exhaust, pulley/tune, bumper delete, aftermarket wheels or set of Penskes. These modifications are often not desirable to new buyers and they may prefer the car in stock condition. These take off parts are for sale often. We have even sold various takeoff parts here on the forum.
The only type of car returned to stock I would compare to one that has been wrecked and repaired is one with heavy modifications like a built motor or a twin turbo system. That is not something we have ever done at Elite Autos or would ever do. Nor would any reputable dealer. I felt I should make this point, as there are many GTs out there that have been returned to stock over the years by a number of different individual owners and dealers.

'Understood, Shelby. Your view is your view and it's valid in the eyes of many. Mine differs and is no less valid. I'm a nitpicker. To ME a "no stories car" is one that has stayed stove top stock from day it left the factory, 'has never been modded, and has never seen a body shop.

I agree with all those points EP. And cars that have "seen a body shop" is a completely different subject. We do not and have not sold any previously crashed and repaired cars. We get called from time to time on crashed and or rebuilt cars and we just have zero interest in them. On the other hand, A front bumper respray on a high mile car due to rock chips and normal wear and tear I feel is acceptable as long as the seller is Honest with the potential buyer about the respray and doesn't lie about it to a potential buyer. A car that has been in any type of collision that warrants body work and or metal panels being painted on justifies, in my eyes, as a "story" car...., no other way to look at it.
