X1 at duPont Registry C&C 12/21/13

I am not an X1 fan, but sometimes you have to acknowledge something special. This daily driver (20k+ miles) showed up at the duPont C&C yesterday. The owner, Steve (IDK if he is on the forum) is a wonderful gentleman. I wish I had taken more time for photos, because this X1 is simply over the top.

I hope you can read the list of signatures...multiple Andrettis, a Castronevis, a Foose, a couple of Franchittis, a Goodnow, a Patrick, a McGowan...and the list goes on.

An additional treat. I walk back to my car, and a man is looking at it. We chat. He is so friendly and engaging. He introduces himself... I am Bernard Guerin. Another signature on the X1...because he engineered so much of it.

Just another C&C.

What is wrong with this forum software? Obviously, I'm not the only one who can't upload pics. Not from IE. Not from Chrome.

Not the only one ! Me too

I get each pic on my iPhone when I click on them. I doubt it's a forum issue.

The X1 with the Hertz colors is an awesome looking car. It would be cooler with the wrap around front like the orange of the Heritage. I thought about getting a black one and doing a red stripe Heritage shaped but my wife forbade it. The gold would be even cooler.

John Player color theme. That is one very nice GT.

You shouldn't have to click on links. The pics should be visible. Something is effed.

Is this the one with the rear trunk?

He was at the ralley in NOLA.

They did a great job with all the changes and one of a kind upgrades!

Yes. Rear trunk enabled by the forward opening clamshell, elimination of the air box, and rerouting of the exhaust. Engineered by Bernard Guerin, who happens to be just another cool car guy hanging out here in SW Florida.

Bernard also engineered the butterfly doors.

Yeah, it has a rear trunk big enough for a set of golf clubs. The clamshell is electrically operated too.

The original car with a trunk is blue. It was present at Rally II in CA.

Well, I did nothing and the pics appeared.

Bonus pic!

The real deal here. One of three Dandy Dick Landy Pro Stock/Super Stock drag cars that drove down St Petersburg public roads to the duPont Registry Cars and Coffee on 12/21/13.

Dick Landy (RIP) invented what is now known as the Funny Car. This Pro Stocker preceded the funny cars (originally called "Altered," because of the forward relocated axles), and ran mid-9s back in the late 60s-early 70s with 426 Hemis and dual Holley 4-barrel carbs on tunnel ram intakes.

Pure race cars, no registration, no tags...driving on city streets...and the local LEOs were cool with it. When these cars rolled in, the earth shook.

What are these cars worth? The owner was recently offered $2.5M for one. He turned it down. Most race cars of this era ended up in the crusher. Thankfully, a few well-to-do car enthusiasts saved some for future generations to enjoy.

Those cars were a real treat to see. They were probably the coolest cars I have ever seen at Cars and Coffee. The owner has numerous off the chart cars, including the only factory a/c Boss 302.
