Ford GT in clasifieds

The members of this forum along with participating dealers and venders determine the present values of the GT(all good). The culture of this forum in seeking the "right" car for purchase is NO STORIES and low mileage....modifications are ok....a blemish on a CarFax is unforgiving right now regardless how inconsequential the damage was...this can change in time. IMHO

I have loved it, friends have ogled, people find this car so 'approachable' (unlike some other makes) and it gives a good chance to be a 'car witness' to them. And I've taken it on a couple trips, marvelling at power, competency in every way. I've got other cars on "the list" that I'd like to explore. Not a complaint about the GT (except for the door design, which also cause the world's fattest A-pillar!) but I feel I've scratched that itch. In the same breath, every time I drive it, I think, "Is this not the best long-term keeper ever???"

The 997s are crazy good cars, but in this group, a little pedestrian. Not sure about Steve, but to me, the Diablo lives up to its name! A Gallardo was a better 'fit' for me, but a 6.0 Diablo is a menace to society for sure. My 512TR was the best Ferrari I've ever owned. There, I said it. And I was NOT convinced of that when I got it. The 512TR is to me 'the' icon of the crazy mid engined 12s. So 80's it oughta come with linen pants and pastel shirts.

I think the door design, while awkward in tight spaces is awesome, it couldn't be any other way given what the car is. Also, although i have not yet owned my GT for three years yet, it still amazes me every time I drive it, or even just look at it. It has proven so reliable, and is so solid and well put together, that you sometimes forget it is a true hyper car, as cars of this performance and appearance are generally Italian, fragile, and temperamental. Perhaps you are bored because it starts every time, is easy to drive, and pulls like a train whenever you ask it to. Or maybe you think you are bored, it gives you no trouble, and because of the certainty that it most likely never will!!
For what it is worth, I do not think you really experienced what the GT is all about, even if all you were to do is ditch the factory muffler, and replace it with a Heffner or similar, it would raise the enjoyment factor significantly.

I am only considering the 997 Turbo, because with our depressed economy here in Ireland, they can be bought for 30% of their new list price. It is an outsider though. I love the 512TR, and having owned two Boxers, have a soft spot for the flat 12 engi

Steve, I believe you may be onto something. I did this once with an NSX. Got it, drove it, played with and improved it. A few months later, was underwhelmed and looking for something else. The more I was told by seriously enthusiastic owners to get to know it better, the more I drove it, the more I grew to appreciate it. Three years later, one of my favorite 'go to' cars. The GT may do the very same.

I've got a 2 hour trip planned to visit my college age son after a very hectic work schedule. The GT and I are going on a bonding trip! Plus, my son hasn't gotten to ride in it even once, so I owe him that. Thanks for the kind suggestion!

whole other experience with opened up exhaust.

That goes for anything with an internal combustion engine.

You mean Tom Cruise didn't pilot the plane? I'm crushed.

No...but he caught the bug and has/had a P-51 Mustang.
I had a number of meals with him as well as a number of the rest of the actors/film crew during thier time aboard.
My Brother was a Topgun Instructor during the same time and wrote a book "Topgun Days"...I was probably the infamous half of the family and my book won't be written until I start drawing retirement. :-)
