I had hoped Ford would lead the way on this, but at least one manufacturer is putting a diesel in a half ton truck. Ford Atlas with a 6 cylinder turbo diesel? Yes please.

Still don't see how small diesels make any financial sense in the US today. A 5K upfront cost for the option, fuel price that is 20% higher plus DEF to gain less than 10% improvement in fuel economy over Ford's Ecoboost offering all while providing less HP and torque. Why would this sell other than the 'I just want it' reasoning.

Diesels only make sense on the larger end of the market where there are no reasonable gas engine offerings. And I love my F250 diesel. Just no longer makes financial sense in a new truck.

Ford is bringing the 3.2l powerstroke to the new Transit full size van so it is likely to be offered in the F-150 soon thereafer if take rates are strong enough to warrant the cost to bring it to market. Ford is watching the others closely to see market reaction, just do not believe it will validate the claims of people asking for it.
