Well... turns out I broke my back yesterday. I was kinda worried given the brutal nature of the hit. Went to the hospital today and have compression fractures in 7, 8, and 9. Out for 8 weeks. I don't care about the pain, it's the having to sit out the rest of the season and not being able to ride my bicycle. The irony of talking a little smack about my tough day in the office only to find out how tough it really was, has not gone unnoticed ha.

Welcome to the club, Mikey! 'Been-there-done-that myself...

Be thankful you're not a para or quad right now...or worse yet - dead.

(I'm tempted to do the "told ya" routine right now...but, I'll be a good guy and 'pass' instead. :wink)

Thanks Larry. Growing up racing MX/SX and riding sleds for the last 15 years or so I have lost count of the number of times I've been seriously hurt. Goes with the territory right? I wouldn't trade it for anything though. Riding is something that once you do you will never be able to not want to do it. I will be dropping cliffs and hitting booters when I'm 70 lol.

Sum people'z kids will juss never lurn...! :lol

Oh that blows! Sorry to hear about it. That was a great drop on a nice bluebird day. Excellent photos. Did you guys ever get good snow?

Otis

Sorry to hear that Luke. Speedy recovery.

Thanks guys

It had started slow this year but was catching up nicely over the last couple weeks. That bums me out more than anything knowing I'm sidelined right when it was getting good. I would ridden a couple dozen times over the next couple of months. Dang it!!!

Heal fast Luke! The trails beckon!

Your moto bud,
Ed

:agree: I'm with Freddy, not my cup of tea.
I don't think EP would ever do something like this.

Wishing you a quick recovery. I guessing getting in and out of a SPF is out of the question now.

I agree. I love to montain bike for an occasional adrenaline rush. But I do feel safer in the GT!

Mike, I didn't see this until today. Now I know what you meant in your email from last week! Sorry to hear. Will it keep you out of the car?

Maybe these will cheer you up. Just got back from big sky.

Thanks Otis!!! Looks like some good pow lol. I did a thousand feet elevation on my road bike this afternoon. It will be awhile before I drop any cliffs but I am hoping to at least be riding the trees in a few weeks. The SPF is up for the winter right now anyway so no biggy there. It was warm this last weekend so I missed out on a round or two of golf which makes me kinda um not happy.

Ed, I haven't been on a bike for a few years and definitely miss it occasionally. I still have a little mad max style S/X track built down at the bottom of the mountain that I used to play around on a few years ago. Relatively speaking, I find I get hurt far less often on my sled than I did racing. Did you watch S/X last weekend? This kid got crushed. He got up and won the LCQ and then went down hard again in the main. he had a rough night lol.

:eek WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!?!? How the devil can you be out doing stuff like that so soon??? I was in a body cast for over a month and in a back brace for a 'couple' weeks there after. :confused

Not sure pockets. I didn't blow my back up into a thousand pieces. Just compression fractures. Maybe you are more fragile I'm not sure? I'm not jumping up and down that's for sure but it really was not bad riding the bike.

Better be careful pushing too hard. You can continue to compress and shorten the height of the vertebral bodies if you go bonsai. Have you seen a spine specialist?

Your local orthopod.

Otis

Ps Did you see the yamacat release today? Pretty weak. Looks like only 3 brands left.

Seriously, Mike, I'd knock that stuff off until the 6 weeks mark at least. Let the fractures heal completely before you put any kind of stress on 'em. You may pay a heavy price down the road for 'pushing it'.
