When I took typing class back in the late 60s we cleaned our typewriters once a week with carbon tetrachloride. The Selectrics didn't need cleaning though.

P.S. Why typing? I showed my mom a picture of a 029 keypunch and she told me I'd better learn how to type. I can still type faster than most people I know.

Yep, and lead in gasoline will make you goofy. When I grew up on the farm we had a big tank of gas. After a day up to my elbows in grease converting the planters and plows and servicing the tractors my grandpa and I would go to the gas tank and wash off the grease with the gas to cut it so we could finish up with most god awful lye soap. I'm sure the lead in the gas is partially a contributor to my current mental state

My car seems to like the former. Gasoline has significant amounts of toulene and lessor amounts of both benzene and xylene.
