I know I could look this up , but I am too tired tonite...

I plan to do New Tires and a Battery along with the oil /fluids etc in early-mid April.

My 2006 has 7500 miles - with original Goodyears and original Battery:
1. Tires : I want to get the Bridgestones - many of you have them. What specifics do I tell the Tire guys to order?
2. Battery : I want to get the DieHard Platium - Many of you recommend. What do I order from Sears ?

thanks,
AJB (andy)

Make sure you let it charge over night. Do not give them your Vin number have them use your cell # as a reference for the warranty.

I plagiarized that. I copied and pasted that from Mark's (Fubar) original post in the tire thread. :rolleyes

If you plan to run any mile events be sure to get tires with a (Y) speed rating and not just a Y rating. Some of the sizes listed have only a Y rating.

thanks !

I printed all this out to study...
.Black Ice......I THINK YOU MEAN 'Z' RATED TIRES IN THE NOTE ABOVE ? Correct?

Tire Speed Ratings

From http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=35

Beginning in 1991, the speed symbol denoting a fixed maximum speed capability of new tires must be shown only in the speed rating portion of the tire's service description, such as 225/50R16 89S. The most common tire speed rating symbols, maximum speeds and typical applications are shown below:

L 75 mph 120 km/h Off-Road & Light Truck Tires
M 81 mph 130 km/h
N 87 mph 140km/h Temporary Spare Tires
P 93 mph 150 km/h
Q 99 mph 160 km/h Studless & Studdable Winter Tires
R 106 mph 170 km/h H.D. Light Truck Tires
S 112 mph 180 km/h Family Sedans & Vans
T 118 mph 190 km/h Family Sedans & Vans
U 124 mph 200 km/h
H 130 mph 210 km/h Sport Sedans & Coupes
V 149 mph 240 km/h Sport Sedans, Coupes & Sports Cars

When Z-speed rated tires were first introduced, they were thought to reflect the highest tire speed rating that would ever be required, in excess of 240 km/h or 149 mph. While Z-speed rated tires are capable of speeds in excess of 149 mph, how far above 149 mph was not identified. That ultimately caused the automotive industry to add W- and Y-speed ratings to identify the tires that meet the needs of new vehicles that have extremely high top-speed capabilities.

W 168 mph 270 km/h Exotic Sports Cars
Y 186 mph 300 km/h Exotic Sports Cars

While a Z-speed rating still often appears in the tire size designation of these tires, such as 225/50ZR16 91W, the Z in the size signifies a maximum speed capability in excess of 149 mph, 240 km/h; the W in the service description indicates the tire's 168 mph, 270 km/h maximum speed.

225/50ZR16 in excess of 149 mph, 240 km/h
205/45ZR17 88W 168 mph, 270 km/h
285/35ZR19 99Y 186 mph, 300 km/h

Most recently, when the Y-speed rating indicated in a service description is enclosed in parentheses, such as 285/35ZR19 (99Y), the top speed of the tire has been tested in excess of 186 mph, 300 km/h indicated by the service description as shown below:

285/35ZR19 99Y 186 mph, 300 km/h
285/35ZR19 (99Y) in excess of 186 mph, 300 km/h

As vehicles have increased their top speeds into Autobahn-only ranges, the tire speed ratings have evolved to better identify the tires capability, allowing drivers to match the speed of their tires with the top speed of their vehicle.

Well I just completed the Tires and Battery Installation.
I installed the Bridgestones and the Sears DieHard Platinum.

TWO questions:
1. I will keep the original tires in my garage storage. Heated in winter (cool) and stored flat. Should I put them on wood or is it ok to put them on the Epoxy concrete floor ? Coat them with something?

2. The Optima Battery is still functional and has the unique 'FORDGT' Logo on the top. Since it was 6 years old, I replaced for safety 'insurance' with the Platinum. I have put the Optima on the battery-tender and it is "fully Charged". I want to keep it for posterity should I ever need to sell the FGT. Should I keep it on the battery tender always or should I just let it 'go-to-sleep' ??

Looking for any advice you may have.

I put all my spares on plywood 'just because'.

As to the battery...at some point it's going to give up the ghost regardless of whether it's on a t. charger or not. So why bother unless you intend to make use of it again sometime soon for one reason or another. (E.g.: I guarantee you in 10 years it's gunna be kapoot no matter what you do! :lol)

Sleep with an occasional charge...but it will eventually die over time, no matter what...

I bought a factory Ford GT battery with the Ford GT logo on it. It was just like the original. Why not just get the factory battery?

The original batteries are black-topped, not the red they sell now. If you go get a new Optima, they just take the red top and stick a Ford GT sticker on it.

True that, but kinda like the sticker. Had good luck with the factory battery.

Thanks for all the good input. I had very good service from my original battery (as noted, it is still 'good' ). But on the tires and the battery, I took advice from the "Experts who reside and lurk on the FordGT Forum" ..you guys...hence my purchase.
Have a great Memorial Day Weekend.
