I'm still on the hunt for a battery for my car too. Love the Sear Die Hard, but
everyone I've checked around here (DFW) has been sitting on the shelf since 4/10.

Anyone have any tips on how to get a recently built/fresh one?

I've still got the dash and the battery out of my car for now, so I'm not in a big hurry,
but eventually I've got to make a move.

mardyn, do you have the dash out for guage replacement?

Best I found in this area was 10/10!

Maybe locate a nearby Sears where its not in stock; order it for pickup, and they have to produce it.

Out of 4 near me, two stocked it.

Its the reason I stuck with the Optima....its stamped right on top and they are very current, my battery was 2 weeks old on the group 25 series red top........gtjoey1314

That's the problem around here too... most Sears stores have one or two, but they've all been in stock for
several months, and they can't reorder 'til the stock is depleted. One store still had 2008 vintage Die Hards
on the shelf... which, btw, are probably fine, but I want a "newish" one for my car.

Just this morning I installed my New Red Top Optima Battery (ordered through dealership from supplier). Battery is 1 1/2 week old series 25 made with GT on top for the Ford GT. I will use my orig. in my GT trailer and see how long it lasts. Ready to roll to the GT gathering in Houston tomorrow.

Have you ever asked then if there is a shelf life on these batteries? If they are stored dry, and acid added at the point of sale, they will be fine, and will last indefinitely until the acid is added. If they are wet (acid added), they should be returned and replaced. Usually, the date code is set at the time the acid is added.

The Sears Platinun Die Hard P-3 75/86DT is an AGM battery like the Optima so the acid is in place from the factory.

Then it should have a shelf life - :thumbsup

I've heard that Sears considers two years a shelf life for their Platinum batteries.

Search google, people attest that die hards go for 7, 9, 11 yrs

I got 7 yrs out of one, 8 out of another that was started monthly or less

Sounds great. I just picked my Platinum P3 75/86DT this week.

To clarify, by shelf life, I was referring to the amount of time that I've heard Sears is comfortable selling the Platinum battery product in their store, not commenting on expected service life. (Which I hope will be great).

My factory battery is still going strong, and I feel bad about replacing it, but also don't want to take the risk of failure after having a solid 5 years of service. I'll repurpose it to another less critical use if it still tests with service-able output.
