After much discussion and contemplation, I have decided that I cannot host a mid-winter track event this year. I am afraid that with poor (or lack of) communication with Spring Mountain and the rising costs (Triple!), it makes it difficullt to risk throwing this great party without losing a huge chunk of change. I no longer have my man on the scene, Doug Tabbutt located at the track any longer, and I am concerned about not having a trustworthy laison to help accommodate our needs. I am seeking other track locations and may host a Spring or Summer event in the Midwest or Eastern U.S. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks to everyone who attended last February, and for your support and encouragement. I'll have an event back soon, so stay tuned!

Bummer Tim....but thanks for giving it so much thought.

In case something changes and it becomes a consideration again one of our members, Somelee, practically lives up there........maybe he can help.

Thanks for putting the effort fourth Tim. We will watch for the nex Stig event.:thumbsup

At least I have the memories. Thanks to all for putting that on last year. It is really hard to believe it was almost a year ago.

Well that's too bad. Guess I'll just have to go to Vegas on my own. Ha ha.

Darn, I have heard about what I missed from mark, for now a year, and was going to be sure this time not to miss it. Well up here in the northeast we are sadly now used to that "triple" the track costs.

What?
No pictures of Frank flexing the Flex around the turns....? That was a sight never to be forgotten.
Thanks Tim!
Keep us posted for the next event when it seems prudent.

Thanks for doing everything for the past track days for us Tim. I wish I could've participated.

Tim Cantwell Second Annual Track Day

Tim, have you looked into using Chuckwalla Valley Raceway, 25300 Rice Road,CA. 92239. 760-227-3100.:thumbsup

AMB - FYI Chuckwalla is host track for Palm Springs Historic Vintage Race --"Revival"--on February 19/20. VARA is the race organizer Location of the track is offcially in Desert Center. About 80 miles East of Palm Springs, right off th I-10.

Following weekend is the (Palm Springs) Desert Classic Concourse d'Elegance at La Quinta. Usually some pretty interesting and unsual entries. About 80% participate in the 150 mile road rally on Saturday, with the static concourse on the lawn on Sunday.

I'll be attending both Saturday events. Call me if your in my winter 'hood.

I'll check it out. Any track named "Chuckwalla" has to be good!

Jeff,

Is that track relatively new? I was flying back to Scottsdale from Fullerton, CA two months ago and noticed that track from the air for the first time. I circled it once and it looked pretty nice. I've been flying over that area for 30 years and had never seen it before. There did not appear to be many buildings around it. Was that track built reciently?

Chip -

The Chuckwalla Raceway opened in March, 2010, outside of Desert Center, CA. There is no local lodging, and the closest would be in Blythe (~40 miles east), or Indio (~90 miles west). It has held a number of events since it's opening, and one can buy a membership there.

Are any of you guys familiar with the new "Thermal Motorsports Park" facility in the Palm Springs area. I had dinner with Darren Law who is their spokesperson for advertising who told me about it, but I have not been there myself.

Chip the track was opened last year. It started "life" as a m/c road race track to FIA Level 2 standards. It has a operating runway too. Orginally this area was used by Gen. Patton to train troops in WWII for desert warfare.

Not much in the way of amenities with in a two hour drive. They have had a few car events there. As a matter of fact The Miller/Ford driving school has a few dates each month due to the winter weather in SLC.

Some of the major M/C mfr's are using this as a test facility. Not sure of the car side of things. From what I've seen it's a darn good track for both bikes and cars. Something like 2.5 miles with 17 turns and FIA bike curbing with some elevation changes.

Tim,

From what I "understand" the Thermal (aka Cochran Airport in Cochella) is/was intended to be a potential F1 track, with all of the amenities etc.
Not sure of the backing, but unless Bernie E. is involved Nothing is Happening. nada info availiable here locally.

A dead horse? Pipe Dream?

Maybe Darin can shed some light on this effort.

I just drove by Desert Center two days ago. Did not see any signs at all. There web site has not been updated since December, but I put in an information request.

I am not sure if your interested but sears point is great around early oct. Great weather and the local wineries are at harvest....
