Headlights are in!

I suppose if a guy bought a set for the future and did not test them out right away, he would be S.O.L.:bored
:cool
.

As I had stated before, I had my two lights replaced several months ago by Ford Delership after 7 months of waiting. There are those two little scratches on the inside of both in the same place. I wanted to go back and have them replace it but after hearing that Ford denied to pay for them undre waranty and that the dealesrship was getting stuck with eating the cost, I left it alone. Whatever, its still better than the weird hue like stains the old ones had and they seem to be good otherwise.

OK, so I go to my selling dealership for the headlamp replacement. I look at the new assembly, and it is perfect, no scratches or mars on the inside of the lens. I am ecstatic. The mechanic and I work very diligently and carefully to replace it (took us about 2 hours), lots of blue tape. We put the whole thing back together (another 1 1/2 hours). Everything looks fantastic. We turn the light on, and the turn signal bulb/parking light does not work. We pull our hair out. The mechanic is upset. We think a little bit. He decides to try another way to get at it.

You can take off the front spoiler, get your hand/arm up into the cavity, undo the washer tank, and reach that SOB easily. It only takes about an 1/8 turn to loosen the connector, and it's easy to pull the bulb and then snap in a new one. Another 1/8 turn to put it back in and you're done. Put the washer tank back in place, tighten, put spoiler back on, and everything is great.

This has to be history, that you can do this without pulling the fender liner. ShadowMan, Kendall and GTGuys take note. The bulb looked like an Easter egg, mostly opaque yellow. It should be clear amber. This is MUCH easier than getting that fender liner out.

The new light assembly came with a tag wired on it that said "Master Part." Never seen this before. The box was slightly different than the previous ones, but still had Made in Netherlands on it. Will try to post pictures later.

Turn signal bulb/parking lamp

Here is a picture of the bad bulb that came on a totally new headlamp assembly. Bad bulb is on the left. This is a dual filament bulb, one for turn signal, one for parking lamp. Read my previous post about easier replacement. If you install a new headlamp assembly, make sure you check this bulb before installing.

Same method applies for passenger side as well as told to me by Pete S.. No washer tank on that side but the evaporator that you have to sneak your hand around. Any fix without removing the inner fender well is a GOOD FIX!

Sorry to hear the "fourth time was the fix" Frank.... but if I ever needed my inner fender well stripped out I'm sure you have the removal down to a science by now!

There has been much talk here regarding faulty or defective headlights. My headlamp assemblies look fine until I drive the car in the evening, then they get moisture condensing inside them and look all fogged up. If I let the car sit for a little while until the lights totally cool down, the moisture evaporates and they look fine again. This happens every time I drive at night. Just wondering if this happens to others.

That's not right and I have a total of 52,000 GT seat miles.

same here, never happen'd to mine.

Is there not a way to test the lights prior to installation ?

Is there an easy way to access and align existing headlights? Or is the alignment procedure similar to installing a set?

Headlight alignment is ONLY up and down, no right or left. There is a small hole in the black bodywork. You need a longer allen wrench to fit in and then you can adjust up or down. Alignment should be done at 25 feet from the wall. The left light adjusts to just about as high as the right.

Thanks Doc.

Where is this hole?

Underneath the front hood? Is it under a cover? (I wasn't sure what you meant by black bodywork.)

I don't see anything on the front or side of car.

Syco, it's inside the trunk. When you open the trunk lid, it's on the inside black body wall. A round hole about 1/4 inch in diameter, close to the hinge atachment. I'm out of town, so I can't take a picture.

Thanks, no pic needed. Appreciate the info and detail. So glad to know it's accessible. I am going to finetune my lighting now.

Happens to me all the time. Day or night.
