Need pointers on Half shaft repair

I know you guys have heard enough about half shafts but I was hoping you know who could help me out..(Oh Shadow or GT guys!) I know about the tightening sequence and the sealing of the washer to keep the gear lube from leaking but I was curios if I will be tackling this just from the top side of the engine compartment and do I need to remove the metal shroud that surrounds the lower half of the half shaft? Any other tips will be much appreciated

Many owners have performed this bolt transformation. I watched the Ford mechanic do mine under warranty and he did not remove the the lower metal shroud.
