BBC announced that they are going to produce a US version of Top Gear. Here is a link:

:cheers

I hope it's as entertaining as the Brit version! :biggrin

One of the reasons for the success of the program has been that the BBC is not reliant on advertising or sponsorship of any sort - it has meant that the presenters can heavily criticise particular cars or manufacturers with complete impunity.

'Fat chance of that happening over here! Especially since the CEO of TWO of our car companies lives in the White House! :lol

Big shoes to fill. I'll definately watch it.

I am the STIG..... ;-)

Why mess with the show at all? Air the same episodes over here on a cable channel like FX that likes edgy things. Why produce one for over here? Do we really need to dumb it down for our masses?? :confused

...........and yes Richard, you are the Stig!! :thumbsup :cheers

And they certainly do !! And that is what makes it very popular among the automotive locals here in Detroit. OEM marketing guys cover your ears and eyes.

No..I'm the Stig!!!

They were filming one of the episodes here in Mammoth today - involving a car driven on snow vs. a skier from the top of the Mountain (not the car). I don't know any of the details - just that they were filming it in the parts of the ski area which have been closed for the season.

PS - we've gotten so much snow lately, that they have extended the ski season at the Main Lodge until July 4th.

They already show Top Gear on BBCA on Directv.

One of the things that I notice about Top Gear is that they have some great cinematography and music editing. Some of the shows when they go on epic trips like the North Pole and the recent show on Bolivia-Chile. I like the fact that they are frank and funny. My biggest critique is that they are often very critical of US cars.

I would watch a US made show if it keeps my attention, but I love the British sense of humor and find that is the charm of the original show.

My 1000th post!!!
