………..came and went on May 11th. I have to say (not to the surprise of any of you) that this was the most incredibly fun year of ownership of any car I have ever had. :banana
I looked at several different cars before I purchased, but my GT experience really all started with a simple question posted on this Forum in April of last year. I asked for any good tips on buying a GT. Little did I know from that first post I would not only go on to buy my GT, but I would continue to check in and post on this incredible website.
Honestly my only thought when I stopped by that day was getting a little info from owners of the car to help make my purchase and that would be that. How wrong was I??? I pondered it for a while. What was it about this car site and this car that made me not only want to drive it, but share the experiences with others. While I enjoyed the different fun cars I have had over the years from Vipers to the NSX and even my trusty 850 CSI, I never even knew they had web sites. (of course now I realize that every car from Hyundai’s to Smart’s have sites :ack)
All I know is that through the GT Forum I have made new friends that I have actually met in person, attended a GT driving school, found a terrific service shop for my car, and spent way too much money on upgrades and gadgets. And honestly the most memorable thing I did with my GT this year was a day of mixed emotions. I drove my GT to Fresno celebrate the life of our former moderator who was taken from us far too soon. That was a man I wish I could have got to know better.
The people who buy (and sell and service) this car are an incredibly interesting group that seem to have not just a passion for the car, but for life as well. Yes the car is an incredible once in a lifetime machine, but the owners are just as special. I will never meet most of you, but I enjoy your posts and find this a regular stop that entertains me for a few minutes (sometimes longer :wink ) on most days. Thanks to all of you on the site for taking a car and turning it into sooo much more. :thumbsup:thumbsup
To sum it up, through 3,300 miles of GT driving bliss, two oil changes, a pulley swap, new bridgestones (one word for these tires…. AWESOME) and all the other gadgets and upgrades this has been an incredible year. I have a non-Forum GT owner friend I have made at the local C&C. His car is bone stock, but he loves to come chat about the different things I have done to mine (he has even made a couple small purchases). I told him to check out the site and he looked at my car, then looked at me and joked “I am afraid to. I am not sure those boys are a good influence.” I laughed and told him, that I had to disagree. They are all a great influence. :cheers
