As the title states and I am in need of an air-box for my GT. I changed the air filters and damaged mine slightly. If anybody has these parts laying around I would love to get my hands on one cheap. I haven't checked with Ford yet but I know there will be a healthy "GT Tax."

CF airbox

Fubar - now is the time to work with Kip on a CF airbox! You could be the first & ace out Bony!!!

I am sure that Kip's fine CF products will make the stock one seem cheap, both in aesthetics and price. The weight savings and bling would be substantial. One concern is can the CF take the heat?

Probably not. I have a blown big block with Carbon Fiber valve covers and the exhaust port heat has warped them so bad I can't get them to seal anymore.

On this I agree based on days gone past

The only exception would be if the gal has the low run Stainless Works or Ford Racing exhaust.

Now certainly heat shields and layers of Mylar could curb the concern.

Takes care

Several motorcycle brands use CF for the mufflers, so heat is not an issue.

I imagine there are some high temp epoxies available. Our government spares no expense on it's coffee makers.

I would think those cars that have those "humped" exhausts, Accufab, Heffner, etc. would pose the biggest problem for a carbon fiber air box. Since I have the "F16 takeoff" exhaust, I don't have that problem. Kip, knock knock...

FUBAR, not sure this is what happened to you but your post reminded me that the K&N filters are thicker than stock and when you install them, the cover CANNOT be tightened all the way down to the stock position-this can damage the threaded portion of the cover.

CF airbox by Kip

Put me down for the 1st one Kip!

Fubar 2nd, Bony 3rd!

Well, I used a dewalt drill to get he screws out (because there are so many). To my chagrin, the drill was set on tighten for the first screw. It broke the screw and also pulled a chunk out of the top of the air-box. :ack

Hey, it's only ,money right? can I borrow some :biggrin

The first thing my mechanic told me was that no power tools should ever be used for disassembly or assembly. Take your time....

Fubar is Fubar'd

Fubar - ok, I feel sorry for you after your goof up. I'll let you have the 1st CF airbox! I'll be 2nd & Bony 3rd.

:lol:lol Actually, a friend and respected member of the forum had a few cases of mistaken identity at the rally and in order for him to avoid any fall out due to my rather overflowing persona .... :lol No actually, since he had been an established member looooooooonnnnnnnggggg before my name change we talked and I thought it would only be right not to place him in such weird spot. Although come to think of it .... I could have bled innocent if an enraged husband cornered me ... "No it wasn't me it was .... people are always confusing us ... we're both sexy and own Ford GT's!!
