How do you travel cross-country with the FGT?

I told my son (16) I wanted to go to Vegas for a car show and he said "we should take the GT on a road trip" The thought was nice and I started planning it in my head till I got to the part of sleeping. The thought of the car sitting in some strange lot worried me. How do others travel long distances without losing sleep of who is hanging out around their ride?

Is there perhaps a list of hotels that offer security or guarded parking?

I did think, I could pull it on a trailer then drive it the last 12 hours but that would not as much fun

plan your trip and stay at a Bed and Breakfast. Most owners would let you park your GT in their garage (if they have one) or would be able to tell you if their place is capable of having the GT on grounds.

If you choose to stay in hotels ask to park up front under the canopy or entry area. Most clerks will keep an eye on the car for you. Get in late and leave fairly early.

At the end of the day ... the car is insured. Have fun ...

Beleize - having spent quite a bit of the last two years on the road with the GT, I have not had one problem nor lost any sleep over "who was hanging around" the car.

I always ask at the desk for their directions for a safe and secure area to park the GT. Most often they offer a "no parking" spot under the front portico, or space that is either directly observable or closely monitored by CCTV or the hotel security personnel.

Enjoy your road trip with your son. You both will never forget it. Time well spent. And you will meet a lot of new folks who will love your car.

I'll second the bed & breakfast method. That's what I do. I choose B&B's that are slightly off the beaten path and have enough grounds to not be visible from high traffic roads.

What are you going to do about luggage though? The few trips that I've taken in the GT are by myself and I have every nook and cranny stuffed with baggage - no room for a passenger.

I'll toss this out as a possible solution to all issues...parking, luggage, whatever.

Have a chase vehicle following you towing an enclosed trailer (is there any OTHER kind?). That would automatically end all concerns. 1- You'll have secure parking wherever you spend the night (as much as is possible anyway). 2- You can bring your whole closet with you if you wish. 3- You'll have a mobile "garage" available - complete with tools, jacks, ramps, etc., and whatever else you wanna bring along - should anything need tending to while you're 500 miles from nowhere.

By golly, paranoia CAN make one prepared if nothing else! I oughta know!:lol

LOL!

In yer ear with a pinion gear, Bony!!!

Pockets is so anal he wrapped his wrappers. It is possible for a GT to go into negative mileage numbers? If so he'd have done it.

+1, did that for Rally II. Made a return label at the same time for a little more weight so allow for more stuff on the return.

The Ferris Bueler roll back method is always available...

Your mileage with that method may vary...More likely, it won't vary at all. :lol

I've traveled quite a bit with my car and always put the cover on it overnight. It tends to draw a lot less attention when covered however I've traveled solo and the space necessary for the cover may be an issue with your son.

Everything Jeff said and in case the concierge needs extra coaxing ( which usually isn't the case) give him a 20. :thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup

Time/you/your son/a road trip and a FGT

"DOES IT GET ANY BETTER" guys dont need a lot - ship the good stuff to LV and enjoy. The GT does not care were you park it - When you turn 80 and your son says "remember our GT road trip" - will you think of parking :confused

I was going to UPS it ahead.
