Well my car is 3 days away from arriving in Helsinki port and I should have it in Moscow in 10 days or so. It is required to have both licence plates installed on the car at all times. Could anyone please post a pic that shows in detail how the front and rear euro plates (the long ones) are mounted? Do i have to drill holes in the front bumper ?? I really dont want to.

Thanks,
Alex

I got this, and was VERY inpressed with the quality of the piece, I was going to make one out of a tow hook, but this can't be beat. I would think you could modify it to handle the wider longer plate, if not the factory method is to drill.....

My front and rears for the UK - but maybe not much help as it's a short number:

Yea, I was going to recommend the same solution - for the front. I'm sure you could modify the back plate of the piece (and perhaps redrill the holes in the euro-plate) to fit. The rear should be an easy one. Just mod the plate to match the top holes and omit the lower (or bolt the plate to a full sized 'blank' bolted to the four fittings).

Over there what is more important, The actual showing of the number or the size of the plate?

The law suggests that it is both the size of the numbers and, therefore, the size of the plate.

However in most countries (UK included) an offence is not an endorsable offence, it's normally a small fine. It is also the case that you would rarely be stopped unless you've attempted to 'morph' the numbers into something else by changing the font - all of these below would be illegal and normally put on cars that aren't going to have the correct paperwork:

If you're sensible and use the proper plate and proper font, then a small plate will probably never be stopped - I haven't been.

Unfortunately in Russia all licence plates are manufactured by the traffic police themselves and are of standart size - so I think I will have to go the drill way. On the rear - I understantd that I should not use any plastic holders and just drill holes in the plate and use some metal screws.
Currently trying to bribe my way in to getting a nice licence plate - hopefully will be able to get T040TT or T100OT (it has to be a 3 number + 3 letter combination here and the letters have to have both a cyrilic and latin equivalent - so a G is not possible :(

Regardless of what the plate size is, Alex, remember to mount the REAR PLATE out away from the body at least 3/8 to 1/2 an inch so engine/muffler heat can vent out thru that big "open space" behind the rear 'plate. :thumbsup.

Have you considered industrial Velcro? Unless the law specifies how you affix the plate to the car. It is much easier to remove the glue than to fill a drilled hole...

Uhhh.... Neilda, judging from that house, you must be related to the Queen. Nice spread!

Maybe this is just plain crazy, but Manufacture the plate yourself once you receive your number... Neildas' front plat maybe too small for Russia :confused but a little bit bigger plate with some holes drilled into it and then place center bottom or just zip tied to the front grill would work... wouldn't it? I know about the air flow but surely WE/you could figure something out... Keep it aesthetically pleasing by keeping it center front..... please..

interesting LAWS you have there...:rofl

consider a speed lingerie bra with a custom license plate pocket.
That would solve your issue.
