new and searching -- VIN decoding?

Good morning, I'm just beginning my search for a GT and hoping some of you can help as I learn about these fantastic cars.

At the moment I'm becoming familiar with the numbers produced in each year, and understanding the VIN coding. I've been to the http://www.fordgtprices.com/pages/9/index.htm website, which was very helpful.

My question is this --- What does the VIN digit after the S indicate?

For example, 1FAFP90S86Y40xxxx

I've noticed this digit as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0, and X. I know the next digit indicates model year (5 or 6) and the remainder after 40 are the sequential VIN for each car.

Position nine is always the check digit. This position will always be numbers 0 - 9, or the letter X. The check digit is a mathematical formula that allows the detection of an invalid VIN.
