Two Schools of Thought

Two different strategies for safety - :wink

Traditional - Design to optimize occupant retention & protection e.g. Volvo.

Non Traditional - Employ a occupant ejection strategy. Being thrown from the car (wearing a helmet) via a weak door latch probably saved his life, e.g. car incurs energy of the crash . In the motorcycle world, cyclists can probably relate the desire to "get away from the bike" rather than contact with sheetmetal/non-movable objects.
