How many GT40s did Shelby sell in the Sixties?

damn at this point i fell lucky to have just sat in one and raced wheel to wheel with one back in the 90's. my brother actually got to ride shotgun at the racetrack in the one i used to race against. he said the car was ultralight and ultra fast. i think the original GT 40's only weighed a mere 2,400 lbs :bow

Chip, who is Harley Cluxton? I raced against him at Coronado last year. He was driving a 427 Cobra. I suspect I irritated him when I passed him at the green flag. He repassed me and and went on to win the race. I was driving a GT 350, it was obvious that I would keep him behind me.

J-12 has been here in Phoenix for over 25 years. It shows up in museums from time to time.

1075 is also stored part of the year down here in Scottsdale, as well as a 1967 Ferrari P4.

Harley Cluxton was the Ferrari dealer in Scottsdale for over a decade and he just sold out a couple of years ago. His real business however was and is buying and selling vintage race cars. Formula 1, Indy Cars, LeMans type sportscars, you name it. He has owned and sold about 15 of the 134 original GT40's and everybody involved in racing world wide seems to know the guy. It took him years of haggeling to buy the '68-'69 LeMans winner #1075 that the Heretage Cars are painted to look like. It is possibly the most valuable vintage race car in the world today. Up until 10 years ago I was the Lotus dealer in Scottsdale and I lost a number of customers to Harley when he pointed out (correctly) that Ferrari has much better resale than Lotus. Cluxton holds the distinction of having owned more original GT40's than anyone else in the world. :thumbsup

Checked some notes, here is what I got:
GT Mk111#1108 not sold at high bid $416,300 (Bonhams-Goodwood - bid was
market correct - reported by me in Car Collector-Victory Lane)
This car is ready for a resto, tired, dull, or as the Brits say, lots of patina :biggrin
GT MkIII #1101 sold $400k
GT Mk I #1059 sold $347,760
GT Mk I #1065 sold $405k
GT MKIII #1105 sold $352k not sold
What does this prove, not much, no racing history, none were fresh restos.

But, GT's without real track history can be had for $100k's less than a million smackers.

Also, take a look what it takes to resto a GT40.... and every tub by now has
to be full of rust just from the moisture in the air...
