Can't PM

I purchased a gold membership so I could do some PM's, as there are some of you that I want to contact on an individual basis because of your knowledge. Does anyone have an idea of how long it usually takes before a change in status takes place? Even if I knew who to contact about this, I can't because I can't PM....catch 22.
