Barry loves cars... A true car crazy guy.

Top Gear is ok, I like their recent cargo van test. Not my favorite, do tape it weekly.

Was the other GT owner of whom you speak an Italian man by the name of Guedo, by chance? :biggrin

No an Englishman - the guy behind the X Factor TV show.

Jeremy Clarkson

The things that pushed me over the brink to buy a GT were the Top Gear features of the GT I happened on on Youtube. I watched every clip multiple times, and even read a couple of books by Jeremy Clarkson to get more attuned to his personality. I even tape it on BBC America every monday (though we get last years show.)

He is a brutal critic of cars, but he absolutely loved the GT. A lot of what goes on on the show is just theatrics(ie, he knows the GT gets similar gas mileage to the Ferrari.) Read his review of the GT on the Top Gear website or review the 4 Top Gear features on youtube and you will see he really loved the car. He really is only critical of his aftermarket alarm system

Jeremy never keeps a car for long though, so when the new wore off he traded for a Gillardo Spyder.

Neil, please correct me on any of this as you have met him. I find him very funny and a equal opportunity basher of all countries, not just the US. He has gotten a little overboard lately though...I don't want us in Iraq either...

I'd say you were pretty correct there Joe. JC is absolutely fawned over by the car manufacturers which makes him pretty spoiled - and he is, as you say, brutal in his judgements on cars. He loved the GT more than any man has a right to, unfortunately he was unlucky with the aftermarket parts (needed for UK specialist insurance - tracker etc) and the alarm system/immobiliser just kept failing. This was because he had one of the first GT's and I think the alarm installers were still learning where best to site the equipment.

American cars in the UK are seen generally as being rather large, ponderous and very soft when compared with performance Italian, German or (dare I say) British (assembled) machinery. When the GT was launched it was a revelation and remains so, an iconic.... no, THE iconic car. We had to have it - Clarkson included. He loved it. But on the 4th or 5th failure, I think he'd had enough, particularly given his short amount of patience.

Owners like those here, would forgive the occassional failure - he wouldn't. Having said that, I've never had any problems with my GT to make me worry. Sure the transaxle weeped a bit and the odometer needed fixing - but I've had glitches with Range Rovers, Aston Martins, Lamborghini's - we all have.

The problem Clarkson has (as does any 'personality') is that every sentence, every word is analysed.... He's not right every time, but he's never far out - apart from his ultimately harsh and silly view on the GT. Don't forget of course that his co presenters (James and Richard) were desperate to trash the GT because Jeremy had bought one (as boys do), so when it went wrong, I think Jeremy was keen to 'get in there first'.

Thanks Neil, I will continue to watch and enjoy Jeremy and the boys on the show.

It is amazing that I just discovered it about 5 months ago...on Youtube!

If you read Jeremy's column in The Times (online archive), he actually cries when they take the GT away, frustrated at the "ape" who installed the alarm in the otherwise perfect car.

We all know he STILL loves it.

I thought his GTX1 ride was really cool and he address the fact that he found it to be the best.

Anyhow at the end it sounded like he has since bought another one......I wonder if anyone has any knowledge of that?

UK guys any news??

Well, personally, I don't care what J.C. or anybody else says about the FGT because, no matter WHAT picky little quirks the car may or may not have (if you look for one long enough), the FGT is hands down the best supercar for the buck ANYWHERE ... and one of the best in the world REGARDLESS of price.

Shoot! Ferrari & Lambo have had, what, four years now to "best" the FGT in whatever catagory? Yet, though the FGT has been a "stationary target" in the sense that there have been no "upgrades" in terms of developement by Ford - in the areas that really matter, the FGT is STILL faster!

AND, as an added bonus - they "ain't" DEPRECIATING like the F 'n' L cars either!!!:lol

Soooo Jerome 'n' th' boys can just ... well, you know...

The real question is do we really care what JC or anyone writes?

Being involved in the drinks business I am used to seeing different reviews by various experts. Often times I have the same product being reviewed with different labels and packaging that were filled on the same day receiving different reviews. It never bothers me.

Some wineries whose products are on tight allocation and mailing lists which I buy for my own cellar require yearly purchases or your position to buy the next vintages. Often times they produce less than perfect results. But they are still truly great wines...

I love my FGT, as I do my other cars. If I fall out of love with something, I sell it. But what I collect is for my own enjoyment.

I admit that I have been moved my the herd mentality. Used to have two Bizzarrini's and my F car pals made fun of the Big Block Chev in one and the Cleveland in the other.
I sold both cars, huge mistake which I regret every day. Never again, we all learn from our errors.

Finally, the only reason the market price for the FGT is solid is because Ford has not come out with the 'better idea.' When they do, the market wil be flooded with cars.
Doesn't look like we will see a replacement in the near term.

I don't think we do care what people write - after all, car enthusiasts will make their own research into a car and decide to buy or not to buy. Articles written after the event would be unlikely to persuade me to feel any differently. But, of course, it's warming to read praise about your chosen chariot and irritating to read criticism.
