The July 2007 issue of Home Theater magazine has an article about McIntosh Labs. In the article they speak to the Ford GT stereo system;
'McIntosh isn't a company that's afraid to take on special projects. McIntosh engineers relish the chance to do something out of the ordinary, so, when Ford requested a high-end audio system for their GT sports car, McIntosh quickly agreed. Ford wanted a high-end system for the $150,000 car and loved the retro looks of McIntosh's gear. The head unit was based on a McIntosh MX406, adapted to Ford's specifications, and McIntosh also customized the speakers to accomodate the interior's space constraints. The project consumed an enormous amount of time and effort, but the prestige made it all worthwhile.'
