I just purchased a new set of OE tires to be mounted new forged (optional) wheels.

The new tires weigh in as follows:

FRONT: 26.3 lbs. each
REAR: 34.0 lbs.

Optional forged wheels (from my earlier posting):

FRONT: 20.7 lbs.
REAR: 25.2 lbs.

Stock wheels (someone else's data):

FRONT: 28 lbs.
REAR: 34 lbs.

Combined tire and optional wheel:

FRONT: 47.0 lbs. (-13.5% or -7.3 lbs vs. stock combination)
REAR: 59.2 lbs. (-13% or -8.8 lbs)

Combined tire and stock wheel:

FRONT: 54.3 lbs.
REAR: 68 lbs.

28.8 lbs difference total. Not bad, especially since I like the new performance wheels better ;)

Much appreciated!

That confirms the radio delete and optional wheels saves well over 100 pounds in weight on the car.

You would be correct, I for some reason was measuring the tire weights as the wheel weights. My bad, I concur, the weight saving advantage is in fact 32.2 lbs, even better !! :biggrin

PS. I am revisting these posts, because I want to see what the largest size tire we can put on the stock rims is.

I use this tool all the time: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
to calculate rolling radius, and as long as you keep that the same by going wider on the tire, and lower on the profile, you will keep the ABS working correctly along with the speedo. Anyone wanna help figure this out?

Is the stock wheel size 9x18 up front and 11.5 x 19 in the rear? Believe it or not, its idea to have 18's all around, putting 19's on the viper was only done to get around a brake caliper issue, not sure why the Ford GT did it like that too.

Thanks.

18" on the rear will not clear the lower control arm...

Cool thanks !! Dont suppose you have a photo of it? I ask because that same control arm may be in the way of a wider rear tire.

Thanks.
