Well...turns out I left the fusebox cover up near the top, forcing a 1/2" over stock gap on the left side and front of the hood. I happened to notice the shine of a key through the crack and was able to fashion a hanger into a hook, hook the keyring and pull 'em all out in seconds! So much for that issue.

My whole reason for being under there was to jump a wire from an ignition circuit to the headlight relays as I need to get the headlights to come one with ignition (Canadian law) and there's no way I'm cutting into a harness, as this is a "still-in-the-and-forever-going-to-be-an-in-the-wrapper car".

There's no ignition feed I can find under there, without cutting into a harness...so I have to postpone the import inspection again until I can figure out how to do this without either passing through the firewall or cutting into a wire harness.

My white GT was wired with a relay to make that happen, which I quickly removed after the inspection, but there was wire splicing involved...and this car ain't getting that surgery. LOL

Thanks for all the replies guys!!

If the car is not being registered and you're thus keeping it on MSO, do you have to do the importation? And if you don't, then you shouldn't need to do the DRL's, right? Maybe you need to import it if it's going to be stored in Canada regardless of whether it's being registered, but in my mind, if you're not registering it, you shouldn't need to do the federal inspection. At least not until it's actually being registered. Anyway, that would be the sensible thing to do, but we all know that's not going to happen. :-(

I wish - but I called RIV...and the short answer is NO. It has to go through RIV or go back to the US. I don't have to register the car provincially...but it HAS to go through the Federal import process. And even if it didn't...if the laws change some time in the future, I could have an issue trying to register at that point. If I want to sell the car here one day and it didn't pass RIV, I could be prevented from selling it as well. I have done all the research and this is what I've found. This is like the 8th vehicle I've brought in in the past 3 years. If you know something I don't...I'd love to know about it as I really don't want to screw with anything in this car. It has to stay in the wrapper and not have a single mod of any sort as far as I'm concerned. I've done the jumper thing in other cars...but this is proving to be a but more difficult right now.

Leaving it in the US isn't an option for me either. I want it in my garage.

I assume you want to be able to turn them off again otherwise you could take it to the dealer and have them toggle on the drls from the lighting control module.

I do...and am calling the dealer to see if they can do it. I know the Canadian cars can be turned off and logic dictates that the US cars can be turned on....but no one said that Ford was completely logical when they built these cars - LOL

Been there, done that. If you haven't locked the doors, or can get the drivers door open somehow, open it to about 45 degrees. You will then be able to peer into the trunk lock mechanism inside the frint fender Use a screwdriver to fiddle with it and it will unlatch quite easily. I did this on our way back from the Rally in Raleigh.

That was going to be my next suggestion. And my next comment too. I sure hope that they can do it that way for you. I've had my DRL's toggled off by the dealer, but I seem to recall reading somewhere that the USA cars don't have that option. I hope that I'm just thinking of some other car lacking that option, because that would sure be an elegant solution.

I brought my 05 fgt in from the US last year to Alberta...RIV dictated it MUST be inspected...local Ford dealer changed the control module to an 06 ($750) which can then be programed to have the lights on always without the option of turning them off. I may have been lead down the path but apparently this is the only "right " way to do it and it's reversible. Also, I just imported an XLR and because the lights can be turned off it also must be reprogramed ($280). I also was told that if I don't do so ,it may affect my ability to resell.
