Today, I replaced a failed oil pressure gauge. I have included two links to prior posts that were extremely helpful in describing what steps need to be taken to do the job.

I can’t stress enough that taping the entire area around the instrument cluster is KEY because the edges of the cluster are extremely sharp. It is also required to disconnect the two gauge connectors from the gauge control module. Finally, it is necessary to detach the small plastic clip that keeps the gauge cable in place. This plastic connector can be freed by pulling gently on the gauge cable. By disconnecting the cable & connectors, the gauge cluster is free to move away from the dashboard.

The factory service manual (page 413-01-54) does not list the necessary step of disconnecting the gauge connectors and the gauge cable plastic clip. Trust me…..the cluster cannot be removed with out it.

In order to remove the cluster, I had to start at the left side of the cluster (the temperature gauge), and gently the cluster up & down while it found its way out of the hole. When in doubt, SLOW DOWN and take a 5 minute break. A good shop light also helps.

Finally, here is a link to Speedhut’s .pdf file that provides a good photo of the gauge connectors where they join the gauge control module. It also shows a good view of the back of the gauges so you can get an idea of what you will be dealing with once you get it out of the dash board.

And finally, thanks to those who have posted about this topic in the past. This forum gave me a good place to find tips &*tricks that made the job doable. It is not that hard……….but without these tips, I would have likely broken a few things on the way to fixing my gauge!

Happy New Year……..may the GT force be with you!
