Autodromo & Ford launch the
Ford GT Owners Edition Chronograph
New Watch Created Exclusively for Owners of Ford’s Supercar
(New York, NY - June 27th, 2018) Autodromo , the New York-based watch and accessories company
inspired by the golden age of motoring, is pleased to launch its newest timepiece in collaboration with
the Ford Motor Company - the Ford GT Owners Edit ion Chronograph.
The Owners Edition Chronograph is a highly customizable luxury timepiece exclusively available to
owners of the new Ford GT . The watch can be personalized to match the color scheme of each owner’s
car and comes engraved with that vehicle’s chassis number. The watch is available for pre-order
exclusively at www.fordgtwatch.com , where owners will discover a 3D configurator site to help them
design their watch.
The GT Owners Edition Chronograph takes its inspiration from the avant-garde design language and
material palette of the new Ford GT. Direct references to Ford’s supercar are found in every detail of the
watch. The crown is a meticulous miniaturization of the scroll wheel selectors on the GT steering wheel.
The pushers that operate the flyback chronograph are finely slotted, in reference to the paddle shifters of
the GT. The dynamic forms of the watch’s 43mm diameter matte ceramic case echo the GT’s carbon
fiber front splitter. In addition, the honeycomb dial pattern is a miniaturized version of the intricate
bosses in the aluminum castings of the car’s chassis. The watch is powered by a Swiss Made La
Joux-Perret 7773 flyback chronograph movement .
For the dial and hands, Ford challenged Autodromo’s founder and creative director Bradley Price to
translate the GT’s cutting edge digital instrumentation into an analog timepiece. Over many months of
refinement, Price’s design evolved into a sapphire dial layer carrying all the graphic elements, which
appear to float over the textured “honeycomb” dial. Sapphire crystal hour and minute hands are set
above both layers to complete the three-dimensional effect.
“The effect I wanted was of a pixelated 3D image on a computer screen, in reference to the digital
instrument panel of the car,” says Price. “There had to be a depth to the dial and hand concept, both
implied and real, and it had to be instantly readable. There were no design boundaries, but this had to
remain a functional racer’s watch. We experimented with sapphire discs for the hands, for example, but
legibility was compromised.”
The online watch configurator at www.fordgtwatch.com offers a unique customization experience that is
new to the world of high-end watchmaking. The 3D model moves in a full 360 degrees, providing a
comprehensive virtual representation of how the completed watch will look. Once the Ford GT owner
has finalized his or her specification, the watch will be hand assembled and tested in the Autodromo
workshop in Dobbs Ferry, New York.
