Is this becoming a thing?!? Selective vandalism of an expensive car...

Not wanting to get political, but for whatever reason it seems I am hearing more and more tales of individuals with obviously expensive cars experiencing vandalism, some while the owners are actually in the car! This Lambo was damaged in San Francisco by a vandal deciding it was OK to walk over another man's car, not once but twice. The jacka$$ was caught by the owner and pummeled on the second attempt. Our GTs, both old and new, could easily be targets. I hope I am just being the boy who cried wolf, but my wife and I were just speaking about it and I'm absolutely sure if it happened to me, either me or the vandal is getting an a$$ whoppin'. Just a FYI, we've all likely worked way to hard and waited way to long to have something like this happen to us. Just be aware and again, maybe it's not a "thing".

Edit: Just found out, the owner was out of the car to confront the vandal for kicking both the driver's and passenger's side...

Leaving a high end exotic unattended is asking for something bad to happen up here for quite some time.

Having it happen while you are present is new. I guess it gives you the chance to deck the culprit, but I am relatively sure that a knuckle sandwich is not legally justified in such a situation and you would likely face criminal charges as well as a personal injury lawsuit.

it is called "wealth distribution". It is the way of America now I am afraid.
If it can't be distributed ., then you have the right to damage it.. No one should have more that the other guy.

Believe me that can easily happen in SF. If the police were nearby the owner would have been charged with assault and be in worst trouble than the dirtbag! Remember this is SF where an 5 times deported illegal and 7 times convicted felon can shoot someone with a stolen gun and only get convicted of felony possession of gun. Now if I did something like that being a citizen in good standing without anything more than a traffic ticket, with a gun I owned, I betcha I would be convicted of harsher charges along with losings millions in a civil suit.

Anyone visiting the area would be advised not to park your high end car unattended and expect it to be the way you left it!

Interview with the owner

Bowen says he was interviewed by police after the incident and pressed charges. However, the man’s public defender had a judge release him from custody without charge because he had no money or job.

Well, it's San Fran, the foci of the progressive/socialist echo chamber. They have elevated envy and vandalism against "the rich" to a social art form. Some years ago, I was driving from my brother's place to SFO airport, down Fell St., and an idiot skateboarder scooted out from between parked cars in front of me. I got deep into the ABS to avoid killing him, and the douche bag flipped me off! I thought, "I just saved your sorry life and that's how you show your appreciation??? Next time, I'll be just a tad slower on the brakes... "

San Franciscan morons. But I repeat myself.

Just this year in Le Mans in a small cafe while having lunch in the medieval part of the city, I had a great conversation on everything cars and motorsports with two gentlemen from the UK who had also attended the race and were early Aston Martin, Jaguar and several other vintage car owners. They both asked if any of us GT owners across the pond had difficulty's with people whilst just basically out and about enjoying our cars, or going to car shows etc.

They both explained vandalism is a huge problem in the UK. You don't dare leave your car unattended or have you're back turned for very long, for the jealous types are around every corner and keying the side of a car is the misinformed malcontents favored way of showing there hatred toward anyone and everyone with a nice car.
These idiots have no way conceptualizing that the usual way most folks get there dream car is just plain hard work, sacrifice and being conservative with ones resources.

Very unfortunately most of the time you can't cure stupid! Perhaps a ball and chain, a sledge hammer on a pile of boulders made into gravel would be a cure!

Eventually California’s political policies will weed out anyone of quality, leaving the state with 10 percent wealthy, disconnected naive dreamers and 90 percent losers/criminals. That’s going to be fun to watch.

And yes, I’ll be long gone before it happens. Popcorn in hand... :pop

I hear you! I don't know how much longer I will be able to tolerate this state. My biz is the only reason I have not split out of here long ago.

Years ago if you owned a nice car , people would admire it and the hard working owner. About 15 yrs ago, a “war” between the classes started. Social and economic problems “created by the wealthy”.Then envy takes over and problems like the above start. This sentiment has been present elsewhere long before here (as in some countries in Europe) as mentioned above.
Interesting , with new proposed tax laws, states like California and NY, where local taxes no longer can be deducted, will see an exodus of the real tax payers, property values plummet, and no one left to pay the taxes!!

Here in Texas, many people have their CHLs, especially people with pickup trucks and exotic cars. Not very smart in Texas to do something like that. Defending property with deadly force is legal.

the majority of people I have found are very respectful to my cars. I can't even begin to imagine someone doing something stupid while you're in the car. I'd be looking at him as he is looking at my two friends, smith and the son of wes.

Gentlemen,

This behavior isn’t stupid, it’s evil. Our society has polarized into two camps. The old guard knows that good and evil exist. Virtue and vice. Effort and reward. And in the opposite camp are those who believe all people are the same and if somebody does better or worse that somebody else it’s because of their fortunate circumstance. If somebody else does poorly it’s because of his unfortunate circumstance. Therefore your success is not really due to your own effort. And since you didn’t really earn it, society is justified in taking it from you or in this case, destroying it. Sad.

chip, perfectly said. I guess I just never understood the uprising over the haves and have nots. I've worked since I was 14 years old and never stopped. I'm supposed to be ashamed of having more than others because they choose not to work 2 jobs like me and my wife did for most of our lives? sure I had some luck but applied it appropriately and didn't piss away my opportunities. just sayin.

When Floridaho Chris purchased his early '05 he still had a very nice F430 parked next to it. He has told me more than once that the very same people (in Florida) who sneered with contempt and would give him the finger when driving the 430 loved his US built Ford '05 GT. Up here in Idaho neither he nor I have had anything but positive attitudes and opinions expressed towards our GT's. Sad but European exotics and there owners are sometimes given a bad branding that the GT's just don't.

I dunno SteveA, I had an instance of an aging hippy teeing off on the GT (“how can you have a car like this, there’s so many poor who have nothing, yadda, yadda”), completely unprovoked. My son, a teen at the time (as I’ve posted elsewhere here) told her to “go take a shower & this time use soap.” Pretty much disarmed that instance.
That being said, there seems to be an enormous increase of hostility towards successful people, particularly Caucasian males, that leads to unwanted confrontations in what otherwise would appear to be unrelated circumstances. A friend of mine has coined the term the “free shit” crowd; those that are expecting everything & willing to contribute nothing in order to receive it. Sadly, many of our colleges have embraced this illogic.
