When the DeLorean was new I didn't think it was very pretty. But now that 35 years have passed I think it's gotten slightly uglier. John DeLorean did some great things when he was head honcho of the Pontiac division of General Motors. In 1968 our family's Pontiac dealership received an award from him that hangs in my workshop to this day.

That would have been a good deal at that price Rex if the car came with 25 kilos of blow. Of course, with that extra weight the car probably wouldn't move under its own power.

A dicey proposition as a investment or as a transportation vessel for illegal substances. I'd consider it if the car came with the infamous aftermarket flux capacitor. Yet, there must be something to owning one, there are even parts available:

Back to the Future GT.

Gentlemen,

OK, I'll do it. Somebody has to put this up. The Delorean that made them cool again. And that it features our new Ford GT hero Larry Holt is even better. I loved this movie.

Great movie, and yes, the visual similarity between Doc Brown and Larry Holt is too close for comfort. In fact, have they ever been seen in the same room, at the same time??!! :lol

There was an aftermarket lowering kit available back in the early/mid '80s that dropped a De Lorean's nose back down to where it was supposed to be (maybe even a bit lower...I don't recall now) before U.S. bumper height regs dictated it be higher. Believe it or not, the installation of that kit made a night-and-day improvement in the car's looks. Opting for aftermarket wheels would have helped too...but, due to the car's 'big-and-little' wheel sizes and their bolt pattern, those that were available weren't all that much to look at (and were actually too narrow [or their offsets were wrong] as well as I recall).

There also was a T.T. kit (or two) available for the car back then...but increasing the car's 'zero' factory horsepower by 'X' percent still left the car with 'zero' h.p. ...which made $pending the money for one of those kits a dubious decision at best.

OTOH...swapping the car's factory Renault/Peugeot/Volvo V6 for a Buick Grand National T.T. V6.........:willy

There is an exotic car dealership in Bonita Springs Florida, Gulf Coast Motorworks, that I had visited earlier this year for the first time. When I pulled into their parking lot there were 8 or 9 Deloreans sitting outside and 4 or 5 more inside, either in storage or being serviced. Had never seen so many in one place.

Well its still alive..... There were a LOT of left over parts when production ceased, as they planned to build many more than they did...

Bricklin

Gentlemen,

I never sold DeLorean's BUT I was the first Bricklin dealer in Arizona. Malcom Bricklin had a home in Scottsdale and as a publicity stunt he gave two new Bricklins to the Scottsdale Police Department to use as patrol cars. As you would suspect that didn't work out too well as there was very little room inside and when the officer needed to exit the car quickly he couldn't as he had to push the "door open" button and wait for the slow opening gull wing doors to lift up. We sold about 35 Bricklin's and had paid for 12 more when the company went bankrupt. Those 12 cars sat in an open field in the snow and dirt for over a year before they were released to us and they were a mess with warped body panels, clogged fuel lines, musty interiors, and other miladies. We reconditioned them as best we could and sold them at big losses. When the DeLorean came along it looked like "Deja Vu All Over Again" to quote Yogi Berra. No thank you. Still, the Bricklin was kinda cute and much better looking than the DeLorean IMO.

Live and learn.

Chip
