Gentlemen,

After consulting with DBK and a couple other members who have taken delivery I want to relay some info to both those who will be taking delivery and others who would like to be there when a new GT is delivered. When a new owner takes delivery the Ford Motor Company flys a delivery specialist out to do a 2+ hour long orientation and it's pretty important. These are very complicated cars and the delivery specialist both explains and shows the new owner a ton of stuff. The new owner will only have him one time and those first 2 or 3 hours are important. I was shown where to find stuff and how to deal with problems. Things I really needed to know that I probably wouldn't have looked up in the owners manuel. For this reason it's a TERRIBLE IDEA TO HAVE A BUNCH OF FRIENDS AT YOUR DELIVERY. When several people start asking questions or talking a lot of important info gets missed.

Everybody is happy and excited when a new GT is delivered and that's understandable. But it's far better to throw a party the next day after your delivery briefing is over. Trust me on this. At Santa Margarita Ford I had to close the private garage doors so I could hear. DBK has locked the ICON showroom doors during deliveries for the same reason.

In short, if you've got a new GT coming, have your wife and kids there and nobody else. And even they will be shut out when you are in the car with the doors shut going over everything.

If you are a friend of a new owner, don't ask to be there at delivery. Go see it later in the day when the delivery is finished. Kind of like a new mom. No matter how eager she is to show off her new baby, it's still a bad idea to have the whole neighborhood in the delivery room!! I believe other owners will confirm what I've relayed here.

All the best.

Chip

Great advice that I will adhere to when it's my turn. I was thinking it would be a good idea to video the briefing as well unless there is an issue with doing that. It would be nice to have a videographer there to record the discussion to view in reference at a later time if needed.

Chip, I had planned a big arrival party but was having second thoughts for this very reason. Your post made up my mind. Small family group on delivery and gathering that night or next day. Very good advice.

“I was thinking it would be a good idea to video the briefing as well unless there is an issue with doing that.”

Like mccarter1369 said if allowed I will have Gopro in car to record the instruction for future reference.

Well, I Completely disagree . and this is my opinion.... For me, this delivery only happens ONCE>>>>

When I took delivery at ICON , I wanted as many people there as wanted to attend. ICON has a lot of area and is a quiet and non public dealership... but I COULD NOT IMAGINE NOT HAVING MARGARET, MEGAN, RYAN , RAJ NAIR, DBK , KEVIN , VAUGHN, REX COBRAR, MIKE, IAN, Reliable driver Rick, ET AL. attending....
I invited more, but since it was a weekday , many could not attend. (Pericak, Henry III etc)

Product Specialists Linsay and Bernardo took me thru the car and my concierge Audry kept me posted on arrival time. Once we had all the pictures taken with our group, Bernardo and I spent 2 hours alone in and around the car and it worked out fine.

Then DBK and I each took one side of the car , 2 rolls of blue painters tape and spent the next 2 hours adding "body protection"
So , my advice is "Make it an event" ... with everyone that matters to you.....

Ps - I will attend my friend Vaughns deliver today at 1:00 pm.... VIN no. 00014

Chip,

Did you have skin to skin time with your new baby? It's the latest fad with newborns.

How did that work out for you?

Speaking of taking delivery, I had the EXACT same experience.

I invited all my pals for beer and nachos to watch my wife push the baby's head out.

BIG MISTAKE!

All the heavy breathing, moaning and screaming took the fun out of being with my friends.

DON'T DO IT!

Go to a bar instead. You can see the kid the next day when all the gook is cleaned off and your wife isn't all sweaty.

It's been a quarter of a century since I had a newborn but the horror of that experience still haunts me. The sadist who decided that husbands should be in the delivery room wanted to be sure the men were as miserable as the women. It was like a scene from "The Exorcist" and I'm pretty sure Lori felt visceral hatred for me during that process. I have no problem gutting an Elk but watching a baby being delivered was too much. Afterward it was wonderful. When I was born my father was told to stay out in the "waiting room". Finding that uncomfortable he decamped for the bar at Durant's about a mile away after giving a nurse the phone #. I think that's a much better way to do it.

I'd think the new owner should also video the instructions, so that he/she can refer back to it. As said, i'm sure that will be information that's "lost" with all the excitement and volume of info being transferred by the delivery specialist.

Show off!!!! If you're a big enough gun like my buddy Andy to get Raj Nair, Henry III, Pericak, DBK, or perhaps Chip Ganassi to attend your delivery then that would be the bomb! I still think the photo of Raj handing you the keys is one of the best photos ever. There were probably 50 people watching my GT get unloaded and we took some photos too. But during the delivery itself (the briefing if you will) you were alone. That's what I'm saying. And obviously owners families will be there. I wish Charley could have been there. But a NFGT delivery needs to go one on one for a couple hours soon after it's delivered and I didn't want to have to dismiss my friends 30 minutes after the car was unloaded for 2 hours. That's my take on it.

I'm having a new GT party at the end of this month at my home. You're invited Andy!

so someone creating a secondary faux delivery 2 weeks after they have the car and inviting 2000 people is a good or bad thing? I'm still scratching my head on that one.

No, not a faux delivery, just a party. 2 new GTs, a bunch of older GTs, and a whole lot of even older GT owners. Food, cocktails, music, sparkling conversation, escort services, free ice, and no two hour briefing to spoil the fun. My new GT will be wrapped and ready to drive! You should fly out to AZ and join us, it's gonna be a blast.

maybe I should have re-worded what I said. I was not referring to you whatsoever. I am so glad for anyone who got allotted a new GT and that they celebrate it as well. there is another delivery that is without question being presented as the original delivery but it's not since delivery was at least a week ago but trying to be celebrated with hundreds or thousands of people for a video hoopla. a total faux delivery and as our illustrious president would say "fake news". big dog and pony show for the unknowing public that attend. sad in my opinion but who am I ?
so I guess we're waiting for a big party by AJB here in Michigan! can't wait Andy! you have to top Chips party and all he will be offering!! lol

I saw your NFGT party pics and the smiles all around. I would truly appreciate an invite to your next delivery party (It would be nice visiting the old stomping grounds -- During summer break from college '77, I was part of the crew widening Telegraph in front of your dealership).

....and I'll send you an invite when I get mine (hope springs eternal)!
