Hi guys I have been asked to start a thread regarding my plan for 0088.

A brief history first. Like most of you here I have loved the GT40s / Shelbys since I was a kid. But no way my family could ever afford one, kit or otherwise.

I was fortunate enough to start mt car career before I turned 40 and its been going very strong ever since.
In 2012 I built my Car Cathedral (6000 sq.ft/ 30ft.high) and consider myself "Multi Cartural" as I have different makes form different countries. Fords and Shelbys still top the list.

In 2003 I was the first Canadian to order a car from what was CAV (Cape Town Auto vehicles) out of South Africa.
This car was ordered as wide body Gulf livery car to match car 6, # 1075 the double Lemans winner.

It has been featured in many magazines and newspapers.

Ford used it at the Canadian International Auto Show when they launched the 05 Ford GT to show the comparison between the 1968/69 years to the new 05 Ford GT. Ford was great, easy to work with and treated me very well.

Like many of you when Ford announced / launched the new Ford GT, I couldn't wait to get my hands on one. Of course at the beginning nothing was really known about when, how, how many etc. The announcement by Raj at Rally 10 was a gift for all of us. Preferential treatment to original existing Ford GT owners was great news.

I applied the same day the application came out, April 12 2016.

I always had it in my mind to do another gulf themed car. But I didn't want to do another #6. Wasn't even sure I could even get the Gulf Blue paint form Ford. Luckily Ford was able to accommodate the paint, but unfortunately not the solid single orange/ midnight blue stripe down the center. So I have been going back and forth on the stripe and I knew it would have to be decal as I did not want to paint over the original factory paint. And having to do the wrapping of the front nose would be very difficult. There some pictures that show 1076 with the entire nose wrapped , but most don't and it's the single strip down the centre. (Canadian spelling not USA "center" :))

So a tribute to car # 7 it will be. Car 7 # 1076 came in 3rd in 1969 and was driven by David Hobbs and Mike Hailwood. I really enjoy watching David as he does his commentary on F1 races for the past number of years. I was fortunate to personally meet him at Amelia Island in 2016 as he was one of the judges. Very nice man.

So that is the plan. Some of the pics I have posted already on 2 of the other threads so excuse any repeats as I will try to keep the process all together here.

0088 was ordered with the Gulf blue paint (same as the 06 heritage colour). I did compare the sample provided to me against my CAV and the colour is slightly darker by a shade or 2 than mine. Now I was told that my CAV was the original factory colour as verified by PPG at the time in 2003.

Ford has told me that their heritage blue is an exact match to the gulf blue used by JW automotive, as well. They may both be right as I am sure the exactness if the late 1960s is no near what it is today. In any event its close enough.
Also ordered with the orange launch control interior, CF wheels and exterior and orange calipers. I want to tie it all together. I believe each will compliment the other.

The car has had the bottom wrapped and the exterior starts next week. Once the paint protection film has been applied then the factory /sponsor's decals and stripe will be added.

I have done a couple of mock ups. I know there will be a few changes to it already

So here are few pics to start the wheels in motion hehehe

Enjoy!

Hi Guys been a week since last posted on this.
Well here are few pis of and from my guy, (doesn't everybody have a "guy" !!:)) doing the wrap on the car - top side and under the doors, (double under the doors).
He is doing all this custom form full sheets. The patterned cut outs so far have not been that great. I want as few seams and breaks as possible on this baby.
Once this is done the stripe and other decals will go on.
Then the whole car, wheels, brakes will all have C Quatrz applied. Better and before Ceramic Pro came out on the market.
