Finally got the latest issue of R&T, (I think the mailman reads it first). There's a great article about the F1 in it, referring to the car as "the last great analog car." The author is wrong, of course. The 05-6 FGT is the last great analog car. The McLaren F1 is the greatest road car ever.
Anyway, read the article as the insights are fascinating, especially the service issues and costs. It's just a shame that it takes the better part of $15,000,000 to join the club. What a car.

Also my favorite car of all time (center seat). I saw an orange one in a show room while doing business in London in 2000. I met and talked with Gordon Murray (designer) at Pebble Beach about the Honda/NSX and BMW 850 12 cylinder connection. I feel that since I can't own an F1, at least I'll get some of the parts/inspirations.

You have to read the article (I will try & post later), but what an incredible machine. The maintenance comments are both humorous and incredible, such as having to PULL the engine for numerous service issues, and the MAC team flying around the world to take care of it. BTW, the vehicle weight, <2500 lbs, stunned me.

It's funny, because everybody talks about no ABS, no stability control, no traction control. Yeah, like an MG! Or a Triumph from the Sixties. And it will get away from you -- you go 70 and downshift into third and nail it, that rear end's gonna break loose, unless there's heat in those tires. It's a bit like a loaded gun -- you have to know how to handle it, all the time. Not like cars now.
