G550 4x4 squared coming to Amerika, Jan 10 build date February delivery. Amazing build quality on these virtually hand built off roaders. This will replace my G63 and come in handy in New Jersey where like in Dearborn we go off-road everyday on our pothole-strewn roads.

Looks great Don. Good luck with it.

I'm sure it has 0 - 60 performance that would surprise most, but not up to that of your other hardware, Toterhome excepted.

Bill,
At 6800lb it won't be setting any acceleration records - about a 1000 lb more than a regular G due to wider track, portal axles, etc.

That is an awesome ride Don. I checked out the highlighter yellow version at Quail and it's a real beast of a machine. Sounds like they will be rare as well, which bodes well because the resale on G63s is already tremendous.

Thanks Dave. The highlighter yellow "electric beam" color is a $20,000 item and I wasn't sure I could live with that color everyday so I passed. Color is the only option in the US unlike the EU where they also offer 18" internal bead lock wheels and 37" off-road tires. The wheels are made by Hutchinson of Trenton NJ who make the bead locks for the Canadian Army G's so I am trying to get them stateside. You are right in that the G squared numbers are limited - they will be selling less than 250 in the US. Sort of a send-off for the G which has been made in its present form since 1979 as they will be making a wider standard version and adding aluminum in 18 to save weight.

Good call on the color. That looks like it is going to be a whole bunch of fun.

I'm glad to see other Gelandewagen fans on here! Fords are my first love, but the Germans know how build cars (and trucks). Check out my old G-wagen:

That is a serious-looking off-roader. I see you share my taste for F150 Lightnings as well.

Afaik it is build in Austria actually. I am not much into Mercedes but what I remember is this car is still built because of it's great demand. Some time ago Mercedes wanted to chease production but there are plenty of people ordering one. It's a true off terrain vehicle which does not try to trick you into anything by showing of shiny gimmicks. Just a real car.

Don,

Looks like you are going to have to wait until next year for snow debut?

86 degrees in March in Savanah?

Good luck with the beast. Looks awesome.

Lightnings are indeed a thrill. My 4400lb brick has gone 9.40's @147. It went on a diet over the winter so looking for faster et's this year.

Here's a couple of pics of my '03. It's pretty mild compared to yours. A few mods are pulley, CAI, larger injectors & fuel pumps, custom tune. 402 RWHP and it's a blast to drive!

Aerospace brakes, Optic Armour windows, Corbeau seats, Ford GT aluminum block converted to wet sump. Partially offset by changing 6 point roll bar to full cage. 900 rwhp
