Result of Dieselgate, economics, Porsche/Audi duplicity, or vision for the future (trend to electric cars)?

It was obviously diesel-gate. Writing was on the wall as soon as they cut one car each from the P/A teams. Plus, what do they care now that they have Porsche around to clean up. Apparently Peugot is strongly considering a return to LMP1.

Diesels were a big con from day one, their particulates are way more damaging to health than NOX,. Hope Toyota can repeat its Fuji sucess at Le Mans next year, domination by the Germans has been pretty boring, and one less competitor should be a boost for the Japanese

12 wins in 18 attempts is one hell of a legacy. Competing against Porsche, a sister division, didn't make much sense to me.
