Undergoing a restoration. This is the McLaren/Amon #2 car from the 1-2-3 finish. The article has a short video of it "on the street"

Looks pretty fine to me just the way it is.

It was pulled from That hampton court show as posted by DBK. Was this a private sale? Wish these race cars could be preserved with it's racing heritage intact. Not sure what kind of restoration is in order. I had some pics from when it was at the Indy Museum on an old flickr account of my friend that posted them for me.

More information here. Sounds like was previously restored but not to exacting specifications. New owner wants to return it to as it was in 1966 when it rolled onto the track.

This piece goes into the history a little more.

I'll just copy and paste what I wrote on that blog including pics.

Well I have to tell you in the late 70′s and especially the early 1980′s I passed on many significant autos especially cobras and GT-40′s because of various collectors wanted them. I sort of found some and let men like Stauffer and Miller make these purchases. This is a good story because it does accurately relate how this GT was parted out then rebuilt as a road car then restored to some sort of racing livery. Before Stauffer made the purchase there were boxes full of parts and the car literally in pieces. I know I saw the boxes. George did a restoration but not to the specs of when it ‘won’ LeMans. And remember the piece

This car sort of reminds me when I found my friend Brian Johnson’s vintage Lola racer literally in boxes hidden away in Connecticut. Here are some pics of 1046 taken at the Indy Museum back in the 1980′s. My friend set up the account for me.

Please note if looking through pics there is this gold flaked GT 40 and is not this one. It was a Ford of Europe GT that was raced and wrecked and eventually George purchased it and painted it red and flared out the rear wheels. Previosly when it raced it was flipped in the 1960′s and rebuilt but again this is another GT-40. https://www.flickr.com/photos/98028471@N06/9192787379/ - See more at: http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/...-mans-in-1966-heads-for-restoration/#comments
