In the final image, there's a red GT40 in the background. Was that provided by Ford? Real or replica?

It's real.

1966 Chassis #1072. Owned by an individual since 1993, loaned to Ford for the show. Has a security guard stationed at it 24 hours, even when the show is closed.

Very shrewd of Ford to keep the original around as they did in the 05 car debut. Neophytes cannot believe that car comes from 1965.

Nice analysis.

In profile, it still looks a little long behind the rear wheels to me. I wonder if this is strictly a performance design feature or an esthetically driven design element?

Personally I love the short rear overhang of our cars. Just curious.

Edit; just saw the 65'ish 4x4 short box F100 in the background, also cool.

Pretty amazing isn't it? So many times I get the question on the 06 about "which kit car is it". Most have not even seen a GT and are totally unfamiliar with the history. When I tell some of the older guys about the 66 triple win some say "oh yeah, I vaguely remember that".

Happy to hear the new GT has gotten Camilo's design juices flowing. That can only be a good thing.

Yeah... I talked to the security guard today am at the Auto show. He was always within 20 feet of the car and would look past me about every 10 seconds to make sure no bad things were happening to the car...
I also met up with Stormcat at the show... He had just flown in from sunny Fla...

Thank You Camilo.

Your analysis confirms, to me at least, what I have been thinking since last weeks introduction.

Over the top everything - styling, performance, execution - Ford hit this one over the big pond!

The "layering" concept is very accurate; easy to miss in 2-D pics.

Agreed Ron!

Very nice dissertation by Camillo on the new design.

Very complementary. The new FGT2 continues the hallmark Ford DNA.

The new FGT2 continues the hallmark Ford DNA.

Very much so. I think the new car adheres much more closely to the original GT40s than the FGT. The new car was conceived for the purpose of racing and is cutting edge, all hallmarks of the originals.

So DBK, if I believe the quotation marks, you're sayin' Camilo sold out on the mid-decade GT - that he's always been a (closet) paddle shifter guy?? :lol

Ha. Camillo had a much different directive with the FGT. My point is that the genesis of PHX is much like that of the original GT40, whereas the FGT was conceived simply as a street car. Let's hope the street PHX is better than the Mk.III. : )

That is one formidable objective for the Multimatic team, I'd say. Race cars, 'de-tuned' for street is a special skill.
