For me, first reactions is always the tell all.

When I first saw the gen 2 GTS at Indy in 1996 I almost passed out.

Seeing the FGT for the first time was a close second.

When I watched the live show just now...I didn't fall out of my chair but it really did make a positive impression on me.

It really brings my passion for Ferrari and American muscle together in one really sweet package.

And a big HECK YEA on them racing it in American LeMans.

Bottom line, the car will sell as long as its not priced well above previous versions.

I agree Brian. I was surprised at the exterior. It's not bad, but it's not great.

I am surprised it was only 640/600. Obviously the car will be an animal, but I figured that given the hiatus and the fact there is a 740 hp Ferrari in the family they would come back with something wild at or near 700 hp.

Is there any way any one can make it sound better than its predecessors?

Looks are OK, interior is nice, but that old crappy exhaust note is a deal breaker.

:agree: Exactly my feeling. As I mentioned elsewhere an hour or so ago, the new car turned out to be pretty much what I'd expected...it isn't all that much different - VISUALLY - from the existing car. The grille area is much improved, IMO...and, like you said, the interior is faaaaaar better.

I LIKE it...but, I'm not really head-over-heels about it.

Maybe I need to see it in person??? :shrug

Were on the same page regarding the sound . Here's what I posted on The VCA site :
" Better sounding Engine ..
Sports cars appeal to us in many ways. They stir our senses through the site and sound. For me there are 3 major factors I evaluate as part of the ownership experience. 1) The look of the car i.e.,, Body, shape lines do I get excited just looking at it.

2) Driving dynamics i.e. Handling and Power delivery cornering, general driving feel.

3) A third element that completes the experience for me is the sound or the engine.

The Viper does a great job at items one and two on my list but is lacking in the 3rd element the "to die for sound department " There is no mistake for the sound of a great V-8. My Ford GT makes a intoxicating roar when you're into it. The best sounding engines in my books are V-12's I can never see to many Videos of a V-12 car rocketing down a straight at full song. A great sounding V-10 in Lambo or Porsche Carrera GT is a close second.

I hope at some point SRT and Ferrari will look at that motor and do something drastic.. new crank and firing order maybe to get the sound better. I know Lambo V-10's and Porsche Carrera GT V-10's are smaller displacement motors that rev higher but something surely could be done to get the world class scintillating sound the Viper deserves..

It's no secret the Viper stigma of sounding like a UPS truck is still there.. I for one hope they complete the circle of the big three to make it a complete true exotic experience. "

I agree,, at 640 they're 2 HP over the current ZR1 with the new one in the hopper..GM is in the driver's seat to crush that number.
The Viper guys are already hearing it from the GT 500 guys about the 650 HP GT 500.. :biggrin
They make an ECU programs to get the last Gen to 650 HP.. 660 should have been the minimum that will still give them some room to go up and not eclipse Ferrari....

I am on 2 dealer lists for one but we'll see. (ordering is not open yet) Having just gotten a 458 from Shelby it was going to take a lot to knock me out--and it didn't. (at least not yet)

With a mill as HUGE as that V-10, making 700-750 h.p. should be no problem. Proof? FROM HOW MANY CU. INCHES does Ford wring out 650 h.p. for the 'Stang?

I rest my case.

Here is something Autoblog wrote, so sounds like it will be on the lighter side to have that power to weight ratio:

"In fact, the 2013 SRT Viper's 4.9 pounds per horsepower puts it just behind the Bugatti Veyron and Ferrari F12 and ahead of such performance stalwarts as the Lamborghini Aventador and Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. What's more, this engine has no turbocharger or supercharger, and those 600 lb-ft make this V10 the most torque-rich naturally aspirated production engine in the world."
