If you have the key codes the dealer can make a new key with proof of ownership. Some dealers make the keys without proof! :ack

Close call...I got in. Door was latched but not completely closed. I was able to slide a narrow long plastic zip tie from the roof opening and stab the door lock button. For future reference the manual says the dealer is the only one with the key codes that is able to get in. If the door had latched completely it looks like there would be no way to get in. Thanks BlackIce for the info.

Any ford dealer can look up the key code real quick and cut a key. Most will make you show proof of ownership before they will do it.....

Okaaaaaaaaaaaay...now that the crisis is past:biggrin, curious minds wanna know; why in the Ethiopian gallopin' clang would you keep/have/place your SPARE set of keys IN THE CAR??? :lol

Isn't that a bit like locking the combination to your safe IN your safe? :rofl

Locked Out

Although it wasn't me, you're not the first to that.

Tip from the GT Guys. Have the dealer cut a spare door un-locking only key, uses an
Escort blank. For about $10. And do not keep it in the car!

Dealer will need the VIN, and will check your ownership through Ford's service data base. Somewhat of an assumption on my part that you have had a Ford dealer service your GT.

Next time ......just call Shelby & Reliable at the same time, have him ship you a new GT and when the car arrives winch the locked one into the trailer for the return trip.
I think Shelby has a Exchange program (just be careful he doesnt send you a red one)

:bowOh Whatcom Wonder,

when the GT doors are locked, with the door opened, it can be closed and you can be locked out. So a spare door key in the wallet is much quicker than sending home for the "real" one in the key locker.

I'm away for the next 10 days. Are you coming south any time soon?

Larry -

I always carry my access-only key in my pocket when I take the GT anywhere - to prevent locking my "electronic keys" in the car. When traveling, the spare electronic key is usually in one of my bags. Once, at Laguna Seca, I mistakenly set my driving key on the shelf of the storage bonnet and closed it. Without the access key, I wouldn't have been able to get in - that's why it's always in my pocket.

Ralphie

PS - it's also a handy key to give to valet parking attendants after I park the car.

Yeah I know, sounds ridiculous to have both keys in the car, BUT, I had a good reason. I was programming a new key fob and the process requires all key sets to be handy. Next thing you know my young son wonders into the garage. I get up to take care of him, leaving both keys in the car. The GT door moved just enough to catch the latch...and the rest is history. I was a bit surprised that you could actually lock the keys in the car, being an electronic system. Anyway, seems these sort of things happen when you are out of your normal routine. I did manage
to program my new key transmitter!

Jeffey: 'Am coming down on the 26th for the Greenwood show. 'Rotten timing AGAIN, huh.

Now I know where "Murphy" resides when he's not at my place! :biggrin

Both my lil' grandaughter(3) and lil' grandson(1) have a THING for closing any open door (or drawer, for that matter). For that reason, my daughter & son-in-law now BOTH carry spare house & car keys at all times! :lol

If you read the Owner's Manual, you can re-set the auto-locking mechanism to "Off." I've never had mine "On" and have never been locked out.

Thanks Frankie.

Haven't read my owner's manual in 4-1/2 years. Guess I missed that tid bit.

As did nearly everyone else on this forum.

Auto lock mode will be de-commsioned today.

If you read the Owner's Manual, you can re-set the auto-locking mechanism to "Off." I've never had mine "On" and have never been locked out.
