We'll see what we can do about that. I'm not holding my breath, but it would certainly draw attention to the effort.

Ford GT Sets Standing 1-mile Record – 266.938 mph

So you want to set a speed record. You can spend a lot of time developing and building a specialty car, or you can do what Ray Hofman of Hofman Motorsports and Heffner Performance did. Simply take their twin turbo 2006 Ford GT with stock block 5.4L modular Ford engine with a stock Ford GT transaxle and an exterior that is 100% stock. Check that, they removed the outside mirrors. Then proceed to run 266.938 mph in a standing 1-mile run, setting a record during the Florida Exotics event last month. There's a little more work to it but you get the idea.

Serious question: What do you suppose removing the mirrors was worth in MPH?

3 mph

Serious question: What do you suppose removing the mirrors was worth in MPH?

About 3 MPH. They have the same cross sectional area as the speed brakes on a Mooney 252. The speed brakes on the Mooney slow it by over 10 MPH from a speed of 250 MPH, but the GT mirrors are a lot more aerodynamic than the flat surface speed brakes. 3+ MPH is a pretty safe bet.

FORD GT WINS IN SPA
5/9/2010

Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium— The Ford GT of Marc VDS Racing Team, driven by Leinders-Palttala-De Doncker, took an emphatic win in the GT1-category of the Spa 1000 kms. There were three Ford cars on the podium in Spa, a good sign for the Le Mans 24 Hours.

Bas Leinders, who conquered the GT1-pole the day before, took the start on a treacherous track, wet by rain that started to fall just minutes before the start. The Belgian took it all in his stride however, gradually increased his lead and gave the car to team-mates Markus Palttala and Eric De Doncker, who in turn drove perfect stints. The trouble-free race ended in a Ford one-two-three, with the cars of Matech Competition in second and third.

BAS LEINDERS
"By taking the pole with a 1.4 seconds difference, we knew our set-up was good. But during the difficult race we still had to avoid all problems and make sure that the car was reliable till the end. Fortunately that was the case, which makes me very happy. Markus and Eric drove a perfect race, which is great news, just one month before the Le Mans 24 Hours. If we have to mention one problem, then it would be the steepness of the pitlane. That made it impossible to top up the fuel tank completely, so we had to make one more pitstop. Otherwise, our advantage would have been even bigger. That does not bother us, though: this victory is a great reward for the whole team, after all the hard work during the sometimes difficult start of the season."

The second season of the FIA GT1 World Championship kicked off last weekend at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Four Ford GTs were entered and, after a strong practice and qualifying, the pairing of Frédéric Makowiecki and Maxime Martin took their Marc VDS Racing Ford GT to victory in the Saturday qualifying race. That victory also gave them the pole for the championship race, and even though they weren't able to repeat the feat on Sunday, they did score valuable points towards the title. Read more on the victory in Abu Dhabi here. You can also watch Saturday's entire race here by scrolling over the different videos and clicking on "The GT1 Qualifying Race from Abu Dhabi."

Global Spotlight – Ford GT Wins Brazilian GT3 Race
Last Sunday, before an estimated crowd of 6,000 fans, Matheus Stumpf and Valdeno Brito, drivers of the #7 BMG Racing/Ford GT, finished first place at Curitiba Raceway, giving Ford its first victory of the season at the 2011 Brazilian GT3 Series (GT3 Brazil Presented by Itaipava beer). Brito and Stumpf were not challenged during the one-hour timed race, finishing in front of a pair of Lamborghinis and a Ferrari.

Belgian VDS Mustang Dominates 12 Hours of Hungary
The Belgian VDS Racing Adventures team of owner/driver Raphaël van der Straten had a very convincing win in the 4th edition of the 12 hours of Hungary. The Ford Mustang GT3 he shared with fellow Belgians Julien Schroyen and Benjamin Bailly crossed the finish line well in front of second placed Belgian Team Speedlover Porsche 997. At the drop of the green flag the Mustang was able to pull away from the field at the rate of about one second per lap. A fuel pickup issue caused a mid-race drop from first place, but the team charged back for the impressive win.

Robertson Racing Claims Podium Finish at Le Mans

Foregoing traditional wedding anniversary celebrations in favor of the world's most famous twice-around-the-clock endurance race, owners/drivers Dave and Andrea Robertson, alongside long-time co-driver, friend and lynchpin David Murry, drove their Ford GT to a GTE Am third place at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Robertson Racing, a privateer American Le Mans Series squad, racing in a class dominated by factory developed machines, is in only its fourth year. The team kept to a strategy built around the consistency and bullet-proof reliability of the Braselton, Ga.-based fan-favorite No. 68 Ford GT. Congratulations on a great effort!
