Paint is blistering

I noticed today that my paint is bubbling / blistering. This is happening in two places of the hood. Along both outside edges of the center section of the hood that divides where the radiator air exits. Has anyone else had a similar problem? I have never noticed it before I have had the car for 4 months. The color is Tungsten Grey no stripe. I do not know if this is an indicator the original owner had the hood painted or if it is a factory issue. Any thoughts?

Thanks, Greg

I don't think I've heard of this issue before - but someone here might.

Greg,

The same thing happened to my car in 2006. I shipped it to Saleen in Detroit and they replaced the hood under warrantee. I understand it's happened to a number of cars and has been diagnosed as a fault in the manufacture of certain batches of hoods.

Palm, if you go through the old posts, there were areas of "bubbling" of the paint, but these were primarily in the brake duct area. There have not been many reports about hood problems.

This week I have noticed bubbling under the center stripe on my hood of my 2006 GT and thought I would just have the hood repainted since the center stripe is a paint stripe and not tape. Now I'm wondering if its a paint problem or hood problem? Tomy Hamon

Guys, the paint blistering can be fixed with a good wetsand and buff. We have seen it on SEVERAL cars and have never had a problem fixing it in this fashion. What is to believed to have caused this is contaminents in the raw surface before the paint was applied. Sometimes different climates will cause these bubbles/blisters to appear. We have yet to have to RE-PAINT to fix the issue. If you have a GOOD body shop or paint shop in your area, have them wet sand the area and buff it back out and the bubbles should be gone. I have even seen these bubbles on delivery mile cars. They are just a known flaw in the production of the GTs

Exactly correct. Did it for shrinkage and blistering. Not the best paint jobs. But fixable.

Yup,Shelby is right, had these bubbles on my hood (20 miles)that was basically never in the sun or ever washed before they appeared.Removed the hood and had it wet sanded and polished at a body shop about a year and a half ago and they since have not returned.

The Viagra buff? :rofl

My hood developed a crack - a flaw in the fiberglass. Was a mid 05 "rough hood". Replacement was smooth hood, painted to match at local shop.
