    Stillen 3.90 Gear Info

Stock tire diameter is 28.92 inches ... call it 29. Stock rear-gear ratio is 3.36. So ... using smaller diameter, 26 inch diameter tires with stock gearing would be just like using a rear-gear ratio of 3.74 with the stock tires.

    Stillen 3.90 Gear Info

For what it's worth, i absolutely agree that, in an ideal world, gear ratios would be optimized for the intended use : street, track, drag. But one thing is abundantly clear ... the stock gearing was chosen, and is optimized, for exactly NONE of these. It was marketing-driven, by the spec to...

    Stillen 3.90 Gear Info

i hear you, man of shadow ... our motors are torquey, no doubt. But that torque translates to "accelerative force" through some pretty tall gear ratios and large rear tires. So, the counterpoint question is : what's the downside of being traction limited through, say, the first 4 gears? I'm not...

didn't mean to sound like a xxxxxxxx or anything ... i really am interested in the product! :biggrin

    Stillen 3.90 Gear Info

By the way ... i absolutely recognize that with the proposed lower gear, when you shift into second at 50 mph you'll immediately have more "accelerative force" available to you ... compared to shifting into second at 60 mph with stock gearing :biggrin But that's not because the engine speed is...

    Stillen 3.90 Gear Info

agreed :thumbsup Again, i'm all in favor of a lower rear-gear ... above, i linked my old thread on this topic :biggrin The "60mph in first" is purely marketing-driven ... that's old news. But there's some bad info in this thread (including the original post by the potential supplier of the...

    Stillen 3.90 Gear Info

As much as I am in favor of shorter gearing :biggrin all this talk about the "drop in revs" changing as you shift, with just a rear gear swap is ... wrong. The change in revs as you shift from first to second, for example, is set by the ratio of first gear to second gear. It's not impacted by...

    Diff Ratio

If I may, this statement would still be true with a rear end ratio of even 2.10 ... but I for one would be a whole lot less happy :frown The problem is, I only use maybe three out of the six speeds as it is.

thanks for the worst news I've heard today :frown

    Does your GT feel fast?

A quick analysis of second gear acceleration ... a good indicator in my experience for street performance, as well as seat-of-the pants "feel" ... the subject of this thread :biggrin Let's compare the Ford GT to a Shelby GT500 with 4.10's swapped in : Motor Torque : Ford GT = 500 lb-ft...

    Does your GT feel fast?

By street racing, I refer to speeds less than 1/4 mile speeds ... the weight disadvantage is understood. But you can't swap a pulley in the GT, without also doing the same in the Shelby for a direct comparison. MM&FF also precits 10's in the Shelby with simple bolt-ons :wink I'll do the...

    Does your GT feel fast?

... but even if I were talking 1/4 mile, MM&FF got low 12's in a stock GT500 ... and predicts 11's with gears alone. I'll stand by my prediction ... especially on the street :thumbsup

    Does your GT feel fast?

While I certainly agree about the weight disadvantage, I wasn't talking about 1/4 mile races.

    Does your GT feel fast?

I'll stand by what I've always said ... it's the gearing. This wonderful machine is just geared poorly for street performance. Remember ... you can't compare rear gear ratios alone. You must also consider rear tire diameter, tranny gears (which degrade the "effective" gearing of the GT even...
