So last night I hopped on the freeway in my Navigator to meet a friend and go the Pistons game. No big deal. It was pissing rain pretty hard, but not "oh my god pull over" hard. A few miles into the trip, I see this little red Cavalier do a little wiggle, and before you know it, it's careening out of control. The thing did about 3 spins, crossed from the far left across four lanes(barely squeeked by about 3 other cars without getting t-boned), went off the shoulder into a ditch, and smashed into a tree.

I pulled over hoping nobody was dead, and luckily the guy and his girlfriend were fine. Car was toast, airbag dust and smoke everywhere. She was pretty out of sorts, and got right into my car holding a blanket which contained the tiny little puppy they just drove like 50 miles to pick up. The girl was freaking out thinking the dog was going to die, but I think the little pup didn't even notice anything happened. She then said her knee hurts and saw she had a minor scrape and went into bawl-mode. :lol I only laugh because I was just thinking how lucky these guys were to be alive, and if a minor scrape is all you've got after that maneuver, throw a party.

Anyways, dropped em off at the police station, a few miles away, gave em my info incase the police needed anything, patted the dog on the head, and let out a sigh of relief things didn't end for these three much, much worse.

Whew!

I think the laws on this topic differ by state.

You shoulda frisked 'em for cash while they were still stunned, and ran off with their puppy.

Ok, not, just kidding. That was really nice of you to pull over and help them, I'll bet they are grateful. And it feels good to help when you can.

I think every state in the union has a "Good Samaritan" law on the books for physicians; however, that still doesn't stop plaintiff's attorneys from filing a suit anyway and tieing you up in court, causing defense costs, even if it's just basic first aid you've given. I hate to say it, but I just use my cell phone. Malpractice reform should address this.

Nice story Dave with a very happy ending. When you first see a car losing it like that, it seems slow mo and almost unbelievable. You're a good guy.

Re: the Pistons, getting a little tired of them already. Would like to see someone take them down, perhaps my Washington Wizards will get on a roll. Or maybe not!

Miracles happen sometimes. I once saw an older american sedan fish tailing a lot about 1/4 mile up the freeway from me. I slowed down to avoid the impending trouble. I saw the driver lose control and rolls the car over 2 times, landing right side up on the tires. A few seconds later a eldery lady ~65+ just gets out of the car and walks away.

Yikes! They were very lucky - you were also lucky that they weren't in a stolen vehicle and didn't pull a gun on you. OK I watch too many Police Camera Action films!!

Nice of you to stop.
